Media Minister Catherine Martin when asked if she accepts that people boycotting the TV license don't want to fund RTÉ in any way:
"What I would say to that is that the TV license is the law of the land, so it needs to be paid...it funds public service broadcasting."

It might be a law but the law can be an ass. Also law can be changed or even repealed as easily as politicians can ask to change the constitution. Like the constitution this law should reflect society and the will of society. A little referendum on the TV licence would help to see how durable the TV licence is in the modern world.

I believe that only the people who tune into the "public broadcasting" should pay for it. Otherwise it's the same like, for example, Netflix demanding we all pay for it whether we use it or not. Personally I don't watch tv, don't even have my tv connected to a satellite dish so I'm not paying for a "service" I don't use. They can fine me all they want, I won't pay the fines either.
