My Mom used to make this during the Thanksgiving season but she called it a pumpkin casserole cake because it was made in a casserole dish. Lol and she only added one cup of powdered sugar to the cream cheese and added vanilla to it. No sugar in the cake mix. And she added dark chocolate chips on top with some chopped walnuts. Didn't have white chocolate in the 70s.

Well... at the risk of freaking out all good and proper baking enthusiasts... I had pumpkin and all the rest... except I only had a butter pecan cake mix... (I know... *gasp of horror*) .... BUT... trust me... oh hello... fabulous... I only wish I'd had some of those little Heath Bar crumbly doodads for the top... jus sayin... LOVE it and will quite probably make it this same way again... But then the mind reels... Devils food mix with a nice scoop of peanut butter in the cream cheese (little mini Reeves cups on top)? Devils food with raspberry jam in the cream cheese... Ok... coffees done... I'm out... Blessings all!

Oh my, made this but did omitted the sugar in cake mix and only 1 cup of powdered sugar in the cream cheese mixture. We added the white, semisweet chocolate and pecans. Once done, cooled right as serving drizzle Carmel sauce. You talk about yummy.😋

Thanks for answering my question that I didn't have to ask...so much powdered sugar in the cream cheese layer...I was thinking 1C would be sufficient! And, why add additional sugar to the cake mix? The pecans are a welcome-sounding addition to the top of the cake...you read my mind...many thanks!

Yummy!! I think it would be great with butterscotch chips or bits of brickle, too. Toasted oatmeal on top for crunch would be super, too. You can't go wrong with this one!!

This note has nothing to do with your pumpkin cake but I wanted to let you know that I have made several of your recipes lately and I was insisting on making the chicken spaghetti bake my husband and I tried it out the first night and then a couple days later I got to make it for a celebration of life I was attending of my neighbor. It went so fast I didn’t even get to see it but I did get told it was an amazing recipe. I gave all the credit to you. So apparently that particular one makes a great funeral casserole.

Made this for my hubby tonight. I make my cakes from scratch though (I don't buy mixes anymore for about 10 years now) This is definitely a keeper!! My cake was not done at 35 minutes, center was very jiggly. I pulled it out at 45 minutes still wet in the center. Is this cake suppose to have like a pumpkin pie texture instead of a cake texture?

It's supposed to be cake texture, just very moist (due to pumpkin).

@@CatherinesPlates Maybe it was because I baked it in my counter top oven instead of regular oven. It was very good, but the cake was more like a dense pie texture. I ended up frosting it with cream cheese icing, it reminded me of pumpkin roll. Everyone like it

Pecans & walnuts for mine no chocolate chips. Maybe a few raisins just to add that sweetness, & drizzling some creamy powdered sugar icing on top. I'm baking it for dessert tonight, my family will be the taste test judges, 😂 .

I make a variation of this cake, I use 8 oz cream cheese 1 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup extra fine granulated sugar NOT POWDERED sugar, add cinnamon chips, and one of my girls substitutes Carmel chips and whatever nuts are handy at the time.
