That’s a great idea! I like to make dump cakes in my Dutch oven. I get my fire going out back, drink some beverages, and eventually have enough hot coals to bake. I’ve used several different pie fillings, peach, blueberry, apple….. adding the whipped cream cheese is a great idea! I can’t wait to try it 😎

I've been making dump cakes for years. Since making it the first time, with the standard instruction of putting pats of butter over the dry cake mix, I've been melting two sticks of butter and stirring in my mix. Then I spread it over the top and it comes out like cake on top, pie on the bottom. You're the first person I've seen who has mixed your butter in. I subbed! Blessings all!!!!

Hi!, For me, it's cherry topping! I added a bit of crushed graham cracker and butter mixture in the bottom of the pan, and a bit more on top of the cake crumble, and WOW! A perfect compromise when you don't have time to make a cheesecake cheesecake! Thank you!

I never thought about adding the cream cheese, great idea! I make mine dump cakes in a cast iron skillet covered in foil, can be done when camping over your low fire while eating, about then done eating, cake is done, been doing this over 30 years with Girl Scouts, mixed all types of cakes and fillings, apple sauce and spice cakes are a favorite of ours!! Yumm thank you. I make Black Forest dump cake with cherry filling and chocolate cake. It is so delicious but to add the cream cheese would put it over the top Black Forest hot cheesecake! I understand what you mean when you added the butter to the white cake mix less powdery but it kind of looked burned where you couldn't tell on the chocolate. It's two days before Valentine's Day so will make it I'm just going to cut up my 8 ounce slab of cream cheese. Into butter.like squares. It will melt anyway. Thanks again

Hi Catherine, I just saw this recipe yesterday. I already had 3 cans of blueberry pie filling on hand. I had to run to the store to get the whipped cream cheese and I used a french vanilla cake mix, which I had this on had as well. I must say, of all the dump cakes I've made (which has been many), this was the most delicious one of all. However, my next one will be your strawberry dump cake because strawberries is my very favorite fruit. I'll probably make one for Thanksgiving this month. I'll let you know which I liked the best. I love you channel,, you always come up with a regular recipe most of us have but you've added different things that puts it up over the top!.. Thanks, keep up the GREAT work. You can also use two different pie fillings in a 13x9-in cake pan like strawberry on one half and blueberry on the other half. That way whomever doesn't want straw berry can have blueberry and whomever doesn't like blueberry can have strawberry!😋 Or a little of both 😍

Adding in melted butter to the cake mix for the crumble layer is so much better than putting the dry mix on top of the pie filling, with pats of butter on top of that. Your version works, while the way I was taught never did, so I was giving up.

I made what I call my black forest dumpp cake the other day and my son lived it the best so far. I used the cherries the a dark chocolate cake mix then the butter ( sliced and dotted not melted. Just popped in the oven! This is my third time making this recipe. I had a carton of whipped cream cheese about to reach the best by date so I thought it a good excuse to whip up a pan! Each time I’ve used blueberry filling because it’s my favorite. And instead of two cans, I spread one can on the bottom of the pan, then layer with the whipped cream cheese, and then sprinkle 11-15 oz fresh blueberries over that, and then the crumble. I don’t care that it is winter, you can’t beat fresh berries! I also add some freshly ground nutmeg and a splash of vanilla to the crumble. And always yes to the ice cream! 😋

I'm almost 59 years old and just made my VERY FIRST DUMP CAKE today!! 😊 (It tastes soooo yummy!!❤) I messed up and used too much butter though so didn't get "crumbles". I decided to throw in a box of cream cheese pudding mix to add another dry ingredient. It worked... but boy is it sweet. Too sweet! I think if that ever happens again in the future I'll just use flour or pancake mix. Still tastes amazing though. 😋 ❤ Love your channel!! ❤

Ditto. I've seen the "dump cake-mix, put down glops of butter, hope everything melts'n'mixes in the oven" method, and this seems more evenly distributed and consistent. I'd be tempted to sprinkle some brown sugar on the top to maybe have it crust-over like flan or something.

I love the idea of mixing the butter in the cake mix. I've tried the dump cake recipe's where you poor the melted butter or you cut it in tiny slices and add on top but it never can out crispy enough to me. Some spots were soggy. But your's look crispy all over. I bet cherries with chocolate cake mix would be delicious. Like a chocolate covered cherry candy. My favorite is cherry.

Hi Catherine. I just finished watching your strawberry dump cake/cream cheese cake video. A friend of mine already gave me this same recipe with one exception. She added 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 1 tsp of cinnamon to the pie filling. It was fabulous. I know yours would be fabulous without these 2 ingredients. To make a banana split version, you can add bananas, mini choc chips, or just drizzle hot choc sauce over it, before the ice cream goes on...really good video....you explained the sizes of the cans, box, and containers of ingredients....well done!!

😋My fave topping is seedless BLACKBERRY jam or pie filling, slightly blended w whole-milk RICOTTA CHEESE!! I put this on top of my cheesecake when it's done. Swirls of gorgeous tints & shades of purple w white, variations of degrees of flavor from bite to bite, complementing the taste of cheesecake instead of overpowering it (the problem w topping cheesecakes...to me). Sometimes I use whipped blueberry or strawberry cream cheese🍰. To cake crumbles (w real butter) I like to add dark brown sugar w vanilla or a bit of Amaretto 😋, sometimes flaked coconut. When done, drizzle caramel, homemade w brown sugar, real butter, & a touch of Southern Comfort or Capt. Morgan's Spiced Rum ❣️😋❣️😋❣️

Just ran across this recipe, love the idea of mixing melted butter with the cake mix, solves the butter Pat method and the dry spots. First thing that came to mind was the new Philadelphia Cream Cheese Cake filling that is a fairly new product. Using that instead of the whipped cream cheese. Oh, my goodness ! That would be delicious. Will be making this weekend for sure. Thank you for the idea !

I like to grease my pan with coconut oil :) leaves a slight nutty flavor but not over powering :) YUM
