nice, so basically the cathodic protection consist on sacrifizing another more active metal(metal2). This more active metal may be connected to metal1 by a wire so that when metal2 corrodes(anode), the other is reduced. We can also put a circuit and generate electrons thhrough it going to the metal1 and so causing it to reduce

It's an electrochemical reaction. Electrons flow from the anodic metal to the cathodic one and that change in charge causes the anodic (positively charged) one to react with other atoms (in the air, water etc?) and form rust (corrosion). kzbin.info/www/bejne/anmmpHWDfpyhick

Basically names are not as correct as they are given... Anodes have no infinite life.. In both of the methods it will sacrify itself.. The difference is size of structure that decides which method to use ffor cathodic protection..
