Serious question: Can the Catholic Church be charged under the RICO act? This was settled and did not go to court where the facts of the case would have been known and the perpetrators would have seen jail time. Seems like yet another cover up by the catholic church hoping that without details this well known behavior will last until the next news cycle. If I'm correct, the Holy Spirit is about truth. Those priests obviously knew the truth of what they are doing and that it was wrong, but refused to admit it/use that Holy Spirit. Moral of the story, if you truly are good, on the side of god, and repentant, you need to tell the truth of your wrongdoings regardless of your image, ego, or just punishments and consequences afterwards.

For those who keep complaining about jail time for the predators and lawyers who benefit from the settlement, you need to know the truth: These are CIVIL cases only and the best a victim can hope for is a monetary settlement. The odds that a criminal case could see the light of day is very slim. Many predator priests named in the lawsuits here are long dead or still on the run. Also, as a victim myself, I'm one of the 600+ cases against the OC Diocese and we simply wouldn't have the resources to file these cases without the help of a good law firm. Yes, they are slated to get 40% of most settlements, but this is standard practice. We all knew that going into this fight.
