Priests also need to allot enough time for confession. If you only have a 30 min confession slot before mass once a week on a Saturday, and 20 people who need to go to confession, that's really not going to hack it. I always think they should have at least one Saturday a month where they have a 3-hour confession session. Then the usual shorter 30 min weekly confessions the rest of the month. Feeling like you have to rush a confession because there are others waiting isn't a good thing. We are not going to confession at the priest's convenience. He's there to serve his flock in Jesus's name. We're all busy, priest included, but there are things that can't be rushed and a good confession is one of them.

I love the 4 C’s, and I agree a list is good because it’s easy to get distracted due to shame or embarrassment. However, I couldn’t help but get a sense that maybe my confession isn’t important enough to waste the priest’s time. Maybe I should just skip it to let others go to confession. I’m pretty sure that is not what he meant, but if I felt it, others probably did, too.

I agree. When I was younger, our Confession schedule on a Saturday was 3:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00. Wow, how times have changed! With having the Vigil Masses, why can't the priests have Confession afterwards, so the penitents. may have more time. I notice that almost the whole congregation receives Holy Communion, but not so many are in line for Confession. I wonder how many are actually receiving unworthily. Priests need to "preach" about going to Confession more often and receiving Our Lord more worthily. Too many don't believe they are receiving His Body and Blood and sacrilege is being committed. Father's, please address this to your flocks! You are our shepherds!

I agree. Our pastor also offers confession on Wed nights and in the early morning so the kids can go before school. Also you can always make an appointment. I live in Colorado Springs and there is a catholic center where Franciscans have mass twice a day. Plus they here confessions all day except during mass.

I like going to confessions at churches which have many priests hearing confessions before and during Mass. Sometimes the wait takes all the time until the end of the Mass, that we accompany from the waiting area, but it is beautiful to see everyone committing to the Sacrament.

Excellent episode. This complete what was left out in other videos about Confessions I have watched, like knowing about a sin we committed and that we know we need to change but not feeling shame or remorse. Very deep indeed. The Sacrament of Confession is a great Sacrament because is not only about forgiveness and growing in sanctity with the graces conferred in the Sacrament itself, but also about healing. It’s a shame so many Catholics are not aware of the value of this Sacrament because is not being explained and promoted by the Church, but the opposite with statements like: “oh no that’s not a sin anymore, don’t worry”, or “no need to repent God is merciful, He loves you anyway…..”. This is not pastoral or charitable but a disservice. Thank you for this video, I’ll share it.🙏🙏🙏

This was so good for me to see. I am going to confession for the first time in a very long time on Monday and I have prayed and prayed in preparation. I have worried that the confession will take too long, but our parish has 23 priests listening to confession that day, so I think it will be ok to be thorough, but still considerate of the time. My worry is that I am so saddened by my sins that have bottled up over the years, that I am afraid I will be emotional and unable to voice my words, therefore taking more time. Thank you for this wonderful guide on confession. I saw it in God's perfect timing.

Our Faith teachers us that when we confess our sins are truly sorry and for those we cannot remember we are by God's loving grace absolved and forgiven. We need to trust in God and not allow doubt and fear (weapons of the enemy to weaken our FAITH in God's Holy Word.

Not Feeling Contrition For Sin, Or Refusing To Confess It, Is A Dangerous Path To Be On, And It Requires The Intervention Of The Blessed Mother, To Get You Free From It. Is God the only one who can forgive sins? Only Jesus can forgive sins. “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins” (Hebrews 9:22). Only Jesus shed blood for us by dying on the cross and since he was the only one who was sinless (1 Peter 1:19/2:22) ****1 Timothy 2:5-6 declares, “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all.” That leaves out Mary!!!

Excellant video! I have learned that with regards to the past sins, the Holy Spirit convicts me and then guides me toward the sacrament of reconciliation. I have spent the past 2 years of my life gaining knowledge of myself through the Holy Spirit who has shown me exactly what is in the way of my progression toward holiness. Thank you for this teaching.

Lord give the priest the grace n patience to hear all the church I mean to say all brothers n sisters of Jesus.Priest should nt shout ,n just be in hurry.Priest hav to give time its confession come counselling.Its important very importantly that a parish hav one week time so that all can make good confessions.But Jesus knows our weakness n we repent n surrendering every day to the lord.Remm Fr Saldanha from Don Boscho Panjim sitting every day for years n years late Fr Saldanha from Don Boschi was the only priest before mass ready for all people for confession.Bless the priest we approach them n they hear our confession.Its very important before confession to repent over n over again..Some sins r nt forgiven.N jesus says forgive ,70 times 7..Jesus is merciful n campasionsate n nt punishing .Lord give us holy priest .

@@mitchellosmer1293, of course, Mary does not forgive sin, not in the sense God does. She cannot forgive it and blot it out by the blood of Christ. She can only forgive it in the sense that it offends her, just like it offends the angels and all the saints, and can only forgive us for offending her by our sin. Mary is a creature, just like we are, and she also needed a savior. Jesus is that Savior.

That second C was a full conversation with a confessor and me. Then I made my confession and anyway did it 🙈 I guess is in out nature to keep on justifying ourselves. It sure diminishes the level and also the contrition.

Thanks for the explanation of a general confession and how to go about reserving time with a priest. Also that sin that was forgotten in the confessional. Should one receive communion or wait until he/she goes back to confession?

If you forgot to confess a sin, even a mortal sin, you can say it next time. You are still able to receive communion. If you intentionally do not confess a mortal sin, I would not receive communion until I was able to confess it. If you simply forgot to confess a mortal sin, the Absolution covers it, you are welcome to receive communion, and you merely need to confess it next time.

I’ve been looking for those questions to be answered. Thank you so much. I also would like answers about the battle between the communion on the tongue verse the hand. I receive it through both whichever is available at the church I attended. I believe there is a crisis so I receive it however I can and I try my best to be reverent by bowing and genuflecting and checking for bits of crumbs in my hand to make sure. Otherwise, how and where else should I go to receive the Lord? Thank you both again! God bless!
@arleneslaz7469

No question! Receive Our Lord's Body and Blood always on the tongue from a priest whose hands are the only hands that are consecrated! If you can, find a Latin Mass Church where recipients receive Our Lord on the tongue and on their knees, humbly and reverently. (Remember, at the name of Jesus, every knee shall bend.) Giving Our Lord the utmost honor and respect He deserves in this way exemplifies that we are truly receiving His body and blood. It is no wonder so many Catholics do not believe in the Transubstantiation of the bread and wine when the Host is distributed into one's hands (having touched objects and been "soiled" in the process). This is so disrespectful. The Host is not a "symbol, " and should not be treated as such. The utmost reverence is a must!

Thank-you for saying this about expediency!!!! I think it is quite selfish to take up so much time when you know there is a ton of people waiting. Being succinct and not making excuses is apparently a better way to Confess thus straight to the point is a positive thing. I'm so happy to hear a Priests give this practical advice. What a shame to have the last people in line either leave, or have to come back another time (if they have that grace). What about the poor Priest who breaks for Mass and now has to also stay after out of charity to serve those who weren't able to Confess due to some selfish person going on and on. A Priest gets hungry and needs a rest too!! Thank-you Father and Ken
