Our prayers are with you as you carry the cross of cancer. We also offer our condolences on the loss of your wife. We would love to speak with you further about your end of life options if you are interested. Please feel free to reach out to Deacon Marc at 303-715-2083. There are many benefits to interring your wife’s and your cremated remains in a cemetery. If cost is an issue, we have a no cost option. We would love to discuss those benefits with you. Again, our prayers are with you and your family during these difficult times.

Deacon Marc, if you are a deacon, why are you wearrin a roman collar as a priest does. That is confusing to me. You appear as a priest, which you are not. Am I missing somethingj, or ignorant in some way?

Thank you for your insightful question. Bishops can decide the appropriate attire for clergy within their diocese. In the Archdiocese of Denver, as well as many other diocese, deacons are asked to wear black collared shirts with white tabs when serving in the role of a deacon. In the Archdiocese of Denver, seminarians, deacons, and priests all wear black collared shirts as per the request of our Archbishop. This is not something new in Denver but goes back several bishops. You will notice that I as all deacons wear the Deacon Cross around my neck as a symbol of my office as a deacon. Thank You! Deacon Marc

Deacon Marc is a ordained deacon in the Archdiocese of Denver. In the Archdiocese of Denver, deacons are required to wear a Roman Collar as well as a Deacon Cross when serving in ministry. The wearing of "clerics" by deacons differs from diocese to diocese. Permanent Deacons can be married when they are ordained.

Your presentation is greatly lacking. Just from what you stated, forbidding cremation should be reinstated. Firstly, cremation is no longer cheaper than body burial and lastly you never mentioned about couples who would want their cremated remains to be mixed which is certainly not allowed. This whole cremation issue needs to end and return to full body burial.

Thank you for your interest in our video. As a ministry of the Catholic Church, we respect, honor, and adhere to the teachings of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. As for your question about the mixing of cremated remains, we do not allow the mingling of created remains. There are “companion urns” that have two separate compartments within the urn which allows for the cremated remains of spouses to be in one companion urn. However, the cremated remains of each individual are contained in a separate compartment and are not mingled with the other individual. Also, there are "companion niches" which are large enough to accommodate two separate urns in the same cremation niche. We hope this clarifies some of the interment options that spouses have if they choose cremation. “In circumstances when cremation is chosen because of sanitary, economic or social considerations, this choice must never violate the explicitly-stated or the reasonably inferable wishes of the deceased faithful. The Church raises no doctrinal objections to this practice, since cremation of the deceased’s body does not affect his or her soul, nor does it prevent God, in his omnipotence, from raising up the deceased body to new life. Thus cremation, in and of itself, objectively negates neither the Christian doctrine of the soul’s immortality nor that of the resurrection of the body. The Church continues to prefer the practice of burying the bodies of the deceased, because this shows a greater esteem towards the deceased. Nevertheless, cremation is not prohibited, “unless it was chosen for reasons contrary to Christian doctrine.” (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Instruction “Ad resurgendum cum Christo,” October 25, 2016.)

Objectively speaking, currently in the United States, a traditional casket burial is more expensive than a cremation interment. Not including the cost of a funeral service at a church, the average cost of a traditional casket burial is $11,542 while the average cost of a cremation interment is $2,978. This is a difference of $8,564. Of course, this is just a national average and may be more depending on the part of the country. The Catholic Church honors the autonomy of the human person and it is the judgement of the individual whether choosing traditional casket burial versus cremation results in an excessive burden or excessive expense on the family or the community. Many people in the United States are deciding that the additional $8,564 is too expensive and are choosing cremation over traditional casket burial. This is simply what the current data is showing. Direct cremation: $2,183 Cremation urn: $295 Direct burial: $3,889 Metal burial casket: $2,500 Vault: $1,572

Cremation was only approved in 1960 by the Catholic Church and I believe it will be rescinded soon.

What about the Saints who were burned alive! Their souls reside with God but their mortal bodies were certainly never buried just to mold away and return to ash!
