When Luis mentions being a Notary, what he means is that it's a more serious role in Latin societies, similar to being a lawyer in the anglosphere. It's the same in Québec, a "notaire" is similaire to a lawyer, whereas in the USA, a notary is like a witness to signatures.

See Philip II by William Thomas Walsh (1937). From the blurb: "It is a panorama of the entire 16th century. Covers the birth of Protestantism and the secret efforts to undermine Catholic unity, the Huguenot wars in France, the Sack of Rome, Great Siege, Battle of Lepanto, Spanish Armada, Council of Trent, etc.; and, Henry VIII, Mary Tudor, Elizabeth I, St. Pius V, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Ignatius of Loyola, etc." I read it decades ago and highly recommend it!

Not necessarily, they were developing into what we called the neolithic period. About 4 to 5 thousand yeas before, Europe was in a similar stage.

The Aztecs brought the fall of the Aztec Empire upon themselves; Spain sought to establish trade relations with this impressive empire whilst the Aztecs sought to continue the human sacrifice that the Spanish had coerced Montezuma to order the stop of. The Aztecs would enslave or sacrifice the vanquished, thus assumed the Spanish would do the same to them if the Spanish won the war against them. This war was of course started due to angry Aztec nobles who started skirmishes with the Spanish over the prohibition of human sacrifice. The Spanish fought back, and won due to superior technology and skills.

What Timmay says at 3:50 or so... Spain dominant til 1750, then French, English, and American empires dominant. Not really with France. 1600s was their high point I thought? Louis the Sun King. But I suppose 1800s too (French West Africa was huge)

Tras la guerra de sucesión española el.poder se repartió mejor entre las potencias europeas, pero puedes comprobar el tremendo poder del que disponía el Imperio Español cuando unos años después de esa guerra sucedieron las guerras de las triple y cuádruple alianza donde las mayores potencias europeas, incluidos los Borbones franceses, tuvieron que aliarse entre ellos pra parar las nuevas aspiraciones expansiones de España sobre los territorios italianos que había perdido en la guerra de sucesión. Si bien España no logra recuperarlos, en un 3vs1 y un 4vs1 contra las.mayorea potencias si logro mantener el status Quo y en la guerra de la cuádruple alianza con un registro de bajas de 4vs1 a favor. Por otro lado, el Imperio fue recuperandose hasta que con Carlos III seguía en primera línea junto a Francia y UK en la lucha por el poder como se demuestra en la intervención española en la guerra de indepencia americana o en el papel que juega el real de a 8 en la economía mundial en ese entonces, siendo la primera moneda global. Luego ya, Fernando VII, Napoleón...lo que pasó es historia, cayó el Imperio y todo cambio.
