Hi Brian. I think you meant the "general" judgement when you said "particular" judgement. The particular judgement is the individual judgement at the time of death, while the general judgement is universal, when our Lord returns, gathers all humanity and separates the sheep from the goats.

Thank you for this. It is what I believe myself but at work some colleagues make fun of my faith and keep shouting about how purgatory does not exist anymore. Most saying it are lapsed Catholics who only go to mass for weddings, Christmas, baptisms, funerals, first confession, communion, confirmation of a relative. When you try to explain purgatory to them they interrupt loudly and will not listen. Some even say they don't believe in God saying if you are good you go to heaven and if you are bad you go to hell and purgatory is like limbo, it no longer exists. If they don't believe in God how can they believe in heaven and hell? I feel so heartbroken over people like that.

Sadly the worse anti-Catholics are ex-Catholics. They are wrong in what they say. You can tell they are wrong by the way the talk/behave and contradict themselves. Just pray for them and don't lose sleep over them. Jesus tells us to evangelize and if people don't want to listen (example: just fight and argue), then dust your sandals and walk away.

DO YOU WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN? The Bible declares, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23 KJV). Because of sin, none of us can pay the price to enter heaven. Regardless of how many “good” works we do, we are still sinners by birth, unable to merit God’s favor. We have come short of God’s righteous standards. Thus, in order to enter heaven, we need God’s righteousness. The good news is that, through the finished crosswork of Jesus Christ on Calvary, we can be made “the righteousness of God in Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV). We can receive God’s righteousness as a free gift! We can receive eternal salvation from our sins! “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8,9 KJV). “The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23 KJV). “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1 KJV). “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8 KJV). “In whom [Christ] we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace” (Ephesians 1:7 KJV). “In whom [Christ] we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:14 KJV). “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9 KJV). “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness” (Romans 4:5 KJV). “What must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:30,31 KJV). Salvation = Faith + Nothing. It is free to you because Jesus Christ paid the price. Do you believe that? Have you fully trusted in that alone for salvation? Jesus Christ (God manifested in human flesh), in His great love, grace, and mercy, paid the penalty for our sins. The Gospel of the Grace of God which saves lost mankind is: “Christ died for our sins, He was buried, and He rose again the third day” (1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV). The Lord Jesus Christ shed His sinless blood to forgive us our sins, but the Bible declares that anyone who rejects the Gospel of Grace will have to pay for his or her sins in the lake of fire for all eternity. When you trust exclusively in the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, Jesus Christ’s righteousness will be applied to you. Jesus Christ is perfect, so His righteousness imputed to us is our only means of getting into heaven. Will you trust in Christ Jesus alone as your personal Saviour? I hope you will accept God’s offer today!

When I was going to an Assemblies of God church, the pastor did a teaching on Jesus cleansing us with fire after death. So a lot of protestants believe in a purgatory-like situation, they just don't call it that. If we all believe the Bible, we all have a lot more in common than we think ❤

I think the protestant reformers were the first ones who invented these, but I think they were made popular and codified in fundamentalist even jealocal circles in the early 1900s in Fundamentalist evangelical circles. They were a reaction to liberal protestantism and getting back to the basics.

A larger issue is that the Greek manuscripts that contain this passage do not contain punctuation. So did Jesus say to him: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise” OR “Truly, I say to you today, you will be with me in paradise.” Punctuation makes a big difference.

The Holy Bible tells us that our works will be thrown into the fire. If our works are made on straw or hay they will be consumed, but if our works are made of gold and silver they will endure and through fire we will be purified. A person can read Jesus mentioning 4 servants. The first servant got his reward. The second servant was torn apart and fed to the wild beasts. The third and fourth servants did not deserve their reward, but did not deserve getting torn apart and fed to the wild beasts so one got a heavy beating and the other a light beating. Jesus mentions an existence other than Heaven and Hell.

No problem. Thanks for the question. The thief on the cross is an exception to the rule because Jesus had not died and risen yet. The Christian church had not started yet. So this was still Old Testament times and not held to the same New Testament standards. Baptism was not mandated until Pentacost. Finally, the Catholic Church teaches that if someone has a deathbed conversion, they can still be saved. Its known as baptism of Desire where they would be baptized if they could be, but they can't. So it's accounted to them. Again, it's an exception to the rule.

Hi Brian, I am having major anxiety issues about Purgatory. Probably because I had anxiety about in the late 70s and 80s about the whole “End times Doctrine” that was going on that I no longer believe. I feel Purgatory is a place of separation from God because apparently God doesn’t answer our prayers. I also here that the souls of Purgatory cannot hear or participate in Catholic Mass which seems also like a temporal separation from God. Is it because of our soul structure as to why souls in Purgatory cannot pray or participate in Mass? Do the souls not the five bodily senses? Like a different dimension? I see other videos on KZbin with Priests and Nuns appearing before humans that have been in Purgatory for decades. In my OCIA class one person said that the devil can still torment souls in Purgatory. The catechism only gives a few sentences about Purgatory.

Please Tony, 'do not fear'. This is the most repeated phrase in the Bible, my friend. Do do your very best in this life, and honestly follow God's Commandments to the best of your knowledge and abilities, but then leave the rest to Jesus, and simply trust Him. God is not unjust or mean or cruel. Please, remember that Jesus' mercy is infinite, actually described as "an endless abyss". Place your mind on that thought and rely on Him, on His grace (not on your own efforts). If you do so, you will be o.k. Always repeat: "Jesus, I trust in You". ~ Many blessings!

Purgatory is actually a gift from God. Purgatory is a purgation (cleansing) of our souls to enter Heaven. 1 Cor 3:15, Mt5:25-26, 1Pet 3:18-20, 1 Jn5:16-17 Nothing impure can enter Heaven. Rev21:27 If we die in mortal sin, we chose to be separated from God. He honors our choices for eternity. There’s no hope left, we are cast into hell. If we die in Venial sin, we have to be purged of it to enter Heaven. Jesus Christ saves us baptized with The Holy Spirit from original sin. Sins committed after Baptism have to be confessed, receive absolution & Penance to be forgiven by God. That’s why Jesus Christ instituted the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession). He gave His authority & power to His apostles & their direct successors, Catholic Priests. 2 Cor 5:18-20, Jn 20:21-23, Mt18:17-18, 16:18-19 We are only saved by loving God enough to live His Commandments, Church, Sacraments, Doctrine, Teaching, having faith, doing His work, receiving His grace, love and unfathomable mercy! He taught if we don’t remain in His Doctrine that He set in His One True Apostolic Catholic Church, We DO NOT HAVE HIM. 2 Jn 1:9, Heb 13:9, Gal1:6-9 If we don’t receive His Sacraments, we will never enter Heaven. Jn 3:5, 6:51-59, 1 Cor 11:23-29, 2 Cor 5:18-20, Jn 20:21-23, Mt 18:17-18, 16:18-19, 19:4-6 are a few

Colossians 2 13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you[d] alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Purgatory is a false teaching. There's no sin to burn off. Christ finished it.

I agree with this comment. Can you please direct us to the place in Scripture that mentions purgatory? It isn’t in there because it’s a doctrine of men. The man who was crucified next to Jesus asked for forgiveness and Jesus turned to him and said, “Today you will be with me in paradise” due to grace alone. Jesus didn’t say, “Wait, hold up. You have to go to purgatory first in order to be cleansed of your sins.”

What does not make sense to me is someone that is baptized at 80 years old , that has broken thousands of windows, won't have to pay for those broken windows . I guess Jesus pays for the broken windows, but he has to pay for every broken window after baptism. Why does not Jesus pay for the broken windows done after baptism. And also someone who was baptized as an infant, who never repented of his sins until he was eighty, has to pay back for all those thousands of windows he broke . In his case Jesus never paid for any his windows that he broke. So baptizing your child as an infant, could possibly mean more time in purgatory for your child? Don't make sense to me
@duffboy5022 жыл бұрын
Time is a concept that does not apply to God, only for us, so in my understanding, baptizing someone at an early stage in life serves the purpose of making that particular person closer to God as early as possible. So that person have more time to develop his or her relationship with God through the natural course of their lifes. And at purgatory, from what I understand, if both are there, their cleanse will come sooner or latter, but it is not for us to try and estimate how long will it take based on circunstances.

Being born again in Christ happens in this lifetime and this world is certainly not the porch to heaven. *_The worst part of purgatory is that your release depends on indulgences? Is just nonsense._* Sure is nonsense, that is why it isn't Catholic teaching. Your loved ones here on earth praying for you and offering up indulgences for you can lessen your suffering in purgatory but your release isn't dependent on their indulgences. *_My salvation is between me and my relationship with Jesus Christ, not through third parties._* Yes and no. Your salvation is dependent on Jesus Christ, but He chooses to use mediators (third parties) throughout His plan of salvation. Keep in mind a covenant isn't you and Jesus a covenant is a family bond. Jesus said the greatest commandment is to Love God and the second is to love neighbor. He wants us to pray for and love one another, he wants us to be the third party in someone else's salvation, not because it is necessary but because it is fitting. *_The laws of the Old Testament don't apply anymore to the laws of the New one (Romans 7:1-4)._* Not sure what old testament law you are referring to as not applying in regards to purgatory. Hello, First of all, thanks for posting this. I'm not a Catholic, but I appreciate you taking the time to post this. One of the issues I have with the Catholic religion is adding stuff to the Bible that isn't there. The issue I have with this teaching is it conflates the Bema seat of Christ, which is where ALL believers will have their works judged, and makes it appear as though we can somehow be perfected in the flesh - you won't find that in the bible my brother. The clear teaching of scripture is this: We are either saved or not saved. We are either righteous by the blood of Jesus, or not at all. There is no "purification" from our fleshly woes that happens after death, just the judgment. We are worthy by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, which you say over and over again, and yet there's this weird "perfection" that is yet to be completed... do you see the contradiction there? To be clear... the Bible says ALL will appear before the judgment seat of Christ (2 Cor 5:10); NO ONE, no matter how surrendered they are to Jesus in this life, escapes that. Purification in the moral or spiritual sense AFTER DEATH is *NOT* taught in scripture. What IS taught is the judgment of our WORKS (1st Cor 3:12-15). What that passage says is that the WORKS of an individual will be revealed, and whatever is wood, hay and stubble (things that we did out of selfish motive or pride) will be burned up, and whatever remains (gold, silver) will be refined, but the WORKER will be spared "as though through fire". It has nothing to do with the purification of the believer ADDED to the FINISHED work of Christ. The worker is saved already; that is a done deal and there are a litany of passages that support this. The judgment you are referring to has to do with the WORKS of the worker. I don't see this as an issue to divide over, but I'm simply stating this is one of those weird doctrines that confuses people and paints outside of the boundaries of what the Bible teaches. Which is why I have a problem with it. God bless you brother - I know you love Jesus and really, that's all that matters :-)

Here are examples of what early Christian writers had to say on the subject of purification after death (purgatory): The Acts of Paul and Thecla “And after the exhibition, Tryphaena again received her [Thecla]. For her daughter Falconilla had died, and said to her in a dream: ‘Mother, you shall have this stranger Thecla in my place, in order that she may pray concerning me, and that I may be transferred to the place of the righteous’” (Acts of Paul and Thecla [A.D. 160]). Abercius “The citizen of a prominent city, I erected this while I lived, that I might have a resting place for my body. Abercius is my name, a disciple of the chaste Shepherd who feeds his sheep on the mountains and in the fields, who has great eyes surveying everywhere, who taught me the faithful writings of life. Standing by, I, Abercius, ordered this to be inscribed: Truly, I was in my seventy-second year. May everyone who is in accord with this and who understands it pray for Abercius” (Epitaph of Abercius [A.D. 190]). The Martyrdom of Perpetua and Felicity “[T]hat very night, this was shown to me in a vision: I [Perpetua] saw Dinocrates going out from a gloomy place, where also there were several others, and he was parched and very thirsty, with a filthy countenance and pallid color, and the wound on his face which he had when he died. This Dinocrates had been my brother after the flesh, seven years of age, who died miserably with disease. . . . For him I had made my prayer, and between him and me there was a large interval, so that neither of us could approach to the other . . . and [I] knew that my brother was in suffering. But I trusted that my prayer would bring help to his suffering. . . . I made my prayer for my brother day and night, groaning and weeping that he might be granted to me. Then, on the day on which we remained in fetters, this was shown to me: I saw that the place which I had formerly observed to be in gloom was now bright; and Dinocrates, with a clean body well clad, was finding refreshment. . . . [And] he went away from the water to play joyously, after the manner of children, and I awoke. Then I understood that he was translated from the place of punishment” (The Martyrdom of Perpetua and Felicity 2:3-4 [A.D. 202]). Tertullian “We offer sacrifices for the dead on their birthday anniversaries [the date of death-birth into eternal life]” (The Crown 3:3 [A.D. 211]). “A woman, after the death of her husband . . . prays for his soul and asks that he may, while waiting, find rest; and that he may share in the first resurrection. And each year, on the anniversary of his death, she offers the sacrifice” (Monogamy 10:1-2 [A.D. 216]).

In hebrews 10:14 talks about being sanctified, which means to be free from sin. Let’s look at it this way, when we confess our sins, Jesus takes away our sins, but we are still tempted to do it again, so we are sanctified when we confess our sins, but not to the extent that we are not tempted by sin. Purgatory is where we become perfectly sanctified, because nothing unclean can enter heaven.

If , according to Protestants, all people go to heaven after death, why on earth did people who are sinners create the Justice System. and criminals go to prison for long years instead of living in freedom because they believe in God? If everyone goes to heaven, did Hitler and Stalin also go to heaven? God gave man free will, but after death one will have to account for free will. This is a DEAD LIE that the Catholic Church added something to the Bible that wasn't there before. At the very beginning, Jesus Christ created the Universal Church, i.e. the Catholic Church, and Martin Luther decided to destroy this Church, separating from it and removing the Books from the Old Testament that did not suit him. He himself was a sinner, a lecher and believed that adultery was not a sin. Jesus died to pay the penalty for all of our sins (Romans 5:8). Isaiah 53:5 declares, “But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.” Jesus suffered for our sins so that we could be delivered from suffering. To say that we must also suffer for our sins is to say that Jesus’ suffering was insufficient. To say that we must atone for our sins by cleansing in Purgatory is to deny the sufficiency of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus (1 John 2:2). The idea that those who are saved by grace through faith have to suffer for their sins after death is contrary to everything the Bible says about salvation.

@@CatholicTruthOfficial I will answer your question. Firstly please allow me to make this comment. Sir, you have proven to be not a very sound student of the Bible in your past videos. I say this with all humility and love toward you as an image bearer of God. You have given false impressions at times that Christians and Roman Catholics are basically in the same ballpark when it comes to matters of salvation. From where I’m standing nothing can be further from the truth. One of us at this moment is in serious danger of hell fire and one has a blessed hope of escaping it. You can clearly be observed not understanding the basics of the Bible. You had proven this with your lack of understanding what the “doctrines of Grace” are, and how, “substitutionary atonement” is related to the believer. You made false claims that “substitutionary atonement” was not taught prior to John Calvin. The fact is many of the “church fathers” taught “substitutionary atonement”. Some as far back as a millennium prior to Calvin. I replied back to you two of these “church fathers”. You never responded to it. That’s fine it’s your channel, you don’t need to respond. However, that only continued to pile up the evidence that one could perceive of your deception on the matter and your lack of understanding of the Bible as a whole. During that entire video you failed to designate what you were trying to refute as “ Penal Substitutionary atonement” as “ substitutionary atonement”. Your denial and blatant disregard and your wildly theatrical false claims in that video proved to many, how far off you were in being a reputable proclaimer of the Bible. You assumed the man in the video (Ithinkbiblically) was a “Calvinist” by carelessly hurling him into that category. In fact you even went as far as misrepresenting him in the title of your video as such. The fact of the matter the man does “think biblically” is NOT a Calvinist and indeed does believes in a Penal Sub Atonement!! Do you see your error?? This could be seen because of your own lack of understanding on that doctrine. You, thinking that “penal sub atonement” is a solitary doctrine only Calvinists adhere toward is not true. The same man you labeled in that video as a “Calvinist” has published videos vehemently against Calvinism. You should have done your homework on the man and you should, if I can suggest to you, study more in depth on the “doctrines of Grace” before you attempt to refute another proponent of it in a social media forum. Either way, souls are at stake here.

@@botsterfilion7718 this isn’t answering what’s finished, you’re not very bright. The Gospel of John says the last words Jesus Christ spoke on the cross before he died were “it is finished,” which in Greek is one word: tetelestai. Some Protestant apologists claim that Jesus’ declaration should be translated, “It is paid in full.” According to them, by saying, “It is finished,” Jesus is saying that nothing else must be paid or done because of sin. The Protestant apologist Ron Rhodes writes in his book Reasoning from the Scriptures with Catholics, “It is highly significant that the phrase ‘it is finished’ can also be translated ‘paid in full.’ . . . The work of redemption was completed at the cross. Nothing further needed to be done. He had paid in full the price of our redemption” (187-188). Protestant apologists like Rhodes claim that this means there is nothing a person must do after making an act of faith in Jesus in order to be saved, since “nothing further needs to be done” to pay for our sins. Moreover, no believer must undergo purification after death through purgatory because there is no payment we must make with regard to our sins, including any kind of temporal punishment. Dave Hunt says in this context related to purgatory, “There is nothing left for sinners to pay in order to receive the pardon offered by God’s grace. The debt has been paid in full. ‘It is finished!’ Christ cried in triumph just before he died upon the cross (John 19:30). To suggest otherwise is the most serious heresy” (A Woman Rides the Beast, 182). So how should Catholics understand what Jesus said in John 19:30? We agree with Protestants that human beings can never atone for their sins. Only Christ, who is fully God and fully man, can satisfy God’s justice and remit the eternal punishment of sin. In fact, Jesus paid for not just our sins, or the sins of those who believe in him. Christ paid for the sins of those who don’t believe in him, and even the sins of people who will never believe in him. That’s why you can tell any person you meet that “Christ died for you.” First John 2:2 says of Christ, “He is the expiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.” The fact that Christ’s death “paid for” or atoned for our sins does not mean that everything is finished regarding our salvation. Our Lord himself “did things” for our salvation even after the crucifixion, since the Bible says Christ’s resurrection justifies us. Romans 4:24-25 speaks of “Jesus our Lord, who was put to death for our trespasses and raised for our justification.” St. Paul says, “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.” This shows that our justification, and even the act of remitting our sins, was not finished when Jesus said, “It is finished” on the cross. In fact, we have to do something in order to be saved because if Christ paid for all of humanity’s sins, then the difference between who is saved and who is damned can be found only in something the believer does, such as receiving grace through baptism and remaining in communion with Christ until death. John’s Gospel records these truths when Jesus says, “Unless one is born of water and the Spirit [i.e., is baptized], he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:5), and “if a man does not abide in me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned” (John 15:6). Christ’s sacrifice atones for all sins, but the Bible says this sacrifice can have no effect if we reject God through disobedience. That’s the point of the parable of the unforgiving servant in Matthew 18. In that story, a king graciously forgave a servant’s debt, which would mean the king would have to incur the cost himself. Even though the king essentially declared, “It is paid in full!” by forgiving the debt, the unforgiving servant threatened to jail another servant who failed to repay a much smaller debt. In response, the king revoked his payment and had the unforgiving servant imprisoned until he paid his debt (which biblical scholars say was so large that it could never be repaid). The lesson is clear: God has atoned or “paid for” all of our sins. But if we refuse to cooperate with God’s grace, then the debt can be reinstated. That’s why Hebrews 10:26-27 says, “If we sin deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful prospect of judgment.” Speaking of Hebrews, the author reminds his listeners that “all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it” (12:11). Painful discipline is just another word for punishment, and so the author makes it clear that beloved children of God can be disciplined, and this discipline yields the fruit of righteousness. Since children of God do not receive the eternal punishment related to sin, then this can only refer to the temporal punishment of sin, rooted in the disordered attraction we have to sin because of how venial sin injures our relationship with God. So we’ve seen that we can agree with our Protestant friends that Christ fully paid for all of our sins-indeed, all of everyone’s sins-but this doesn’t mean there is “nothing more” we must do to cooperate with God’s gift of salvation. It also doesn’t mean we don’t pay a temporal penalty for our sins through God disciplining us just because Christ remitted the eternal penalty for our sins. So what did Jesus mean when he said “It is finished”? First, he did not literally mean “it is paid in full.” That can be a truth we glean from this passage, but Rhodes is wrong when he says we can translate tetelestai as simply “paid in full.” It’s a form of the Greek word teleō, which just means to “end” or “finish.” The idea that it means “paid in full” is something of an urban legend in biblical exegesis that came from scholars who noted that receipts from around the time of the New Testament had the Greek word tetel stamped on them, indicating that they were paid. But this is an abbreviation, and there are five different Greek words that begin with these letters. One of them is tetelōnētai, which is a different word from tetelestai. It literally means “tax,” or “paid as taxes,” and it can be found on dozens of receipts where it refers to a tax that has been paid. The word tetelestai, on the other hand, is used in ancient Greek sources to describe finishing artwork or manufacturing, not the paying of debts. In the New Testament, the root word teleō is used for payments only in Matthew 17:24 and Romans 13:6-in reference not to “paid in full,” but to paying taxes. So if Jesus didn’t mean “paid in full,” then what did he mean when he said, “It is finished”? One prominent interpretation is that Jesus meant that the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah were now fulfilled in his sacrificial death. Read the preceding verses, which describe what happened after Jesus entrusted his mother to the apostle John: After this Jesus, knowing that all was now finished (tetelestai), said (to fulfil [teleiōthē] the scripture), “I thirst.” A bowl full of vinegar stood there; so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on hyssop and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, “It is finished”; and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. John 19:28 is the only other place where tetelestai is used in Scripture. When combined with the related word teleiōthē, we see that the context is related to finishing, completing, or fulfilling messianic prophecies of the Old Testament. Jesus could also have been referring to the “finishing” of the Last Supper. Scott Hahn proposed this hypothesis in his book The Lamb’s Supper (and in more detail in his 2018 book The Fourth Cup). Hahn notes that Jesus conspicuously did not drink from the fourth cup of the Passover meal. Instead, Jesus refused to drink wine until he came into his kingdom, and then, before dying, he drank sour wine on the cross. Hahn says, “It was the Passover that was now finished. More precisely, it was Jesus’ transformation of the Passover sacrifice of the Old Covenant into the Eucharistic sacrifice of the New Covenant.” This last word of Christ could include all of these meanings and others that have not been explored. However, we do know that Jesus did not mean that our sins had been paid in a way that removes any obligation to cooperate with God’s grace in order to remain in communion with Christ. John 3:36 puts it well: “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God rests upon him.”

Since you claim there is no "purgatory " Then please explain where Jesus' Spirit went for the 3 days his body was dead? Sacred Scripture says ",, that he went and preached to the spirits who lay in prison. " ( 1 Peter 3:19) Where was this prison? was it in Heaven? If so why would there be a prison in Paradise? Was the prison in the Hell of the Damned? If so why would the damned need to hear the Gospel? . as you say there is no "purgatory" then Jesus did not have to die on the cross. If Moses and Abraham and the rest of the OT Faithful were already in the presence of the Lord then Jesus did not have to die. His death on the cross opened the narrow gate and the OT faithful passed through that narrow gate from the wilderness into the Promised land. The OT Faithful that died waiting for the Messiah weren't in slavery in Egypt- the antetype of hell of the damned for they had been rescued but they weren't in the Promised land of heaven either. Jesus' death opened the narrow gate and fulfilled the Covenant. Please study the Hebrew thoughts of Sheol and the grave, and note that Sheol is NOT Gehenna. Gehenna is for the accursed and the Damned not Abraham or Moses. The waiting in the spiritual wilderness is the best explanation of "purgatory" I can think of right now. Thanks for listening and remember Revelation 21 :17 & 1 Cor 3:15 especially verses 10-15. ---- the word hell means Hades or Sheol, the collective abode of the dead, divided into Paradise or Abraham's Bosom--the state of God-fearing souls--and Gehenna, the state of ungodly souls. Thus the descent into hell suggests that the Son of God carried the sins of the world to hell; or the Son of God carried Good News of deliverance to the godly dead such as Lazarus the beggar and the repentant thief. Christ says in Matthew that, like Jonah, he would be in the belly of the earth for 3 days. Acts tells us Christ remained on earth for 40 days before He ascends. So there were 43 days BEFORE Christ went to Heaven. Did the good thief go ahead of the Lord to make sure the lights were on for His arrival? Or, more likely, Paradise that Christ mentions, is Abrahams Boosom. The place where the prisoners Christ preached to in 1st Peter were awaiting the Messiah🤣

@@biblealone9201 1 Peter 3:19, when read in context, stated that Jesus went and made proclamation to the spirits in prison, who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting (for the ungodly to repent) in the days of Noah..." The spirits in prison were the ungodly in Noah's time, held captive for rejecting Noah's preaching of repentance and pending judgement. It would be out of context to say that these imprisoned spirits are in a place of after-death purging. The ungodly and unbelieving die in their sins for rejecting the truth. The proclamation of the Word of God (Jesus) always provides deliverance for the captives, and He chooses vessels who are sold- out for His purposes to proclaim His word. In this case, it was Noah. We already have seen from the Scriptures how God provided purification (purging) from the eight verses listed in my initial comment. Being known as "Bible Alone," you should not have any issues with those listed verses. You stated that if Moses and Abraham, and the rest of the Old Testament faithful were already in the presence of the Lord, then Jesus would not have to die? Scripture says in Revelation that "He was slain before the foundation of the world." Moses and Elijah came down from heaven (yes, from heaven) during Jesus' transfiguration. Being present, Peter, James, and John testified to this. All of the Old Testament faithful were made righteous by their faith, and all of them are in heaven. The "waiting in the spiritual wilderness" (as you called it) cannot be a place called "purgatory." I already discussed the difference between purging (the believer's works by fire) and purification of sins for one's salvation provided by the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus. To say that the follower of Christ must also suffer for his or her sins (venial or otherwise) is to say that the sufferings that Jesus endured for one's salvation is not sufficient. The insufficiency of the finished work of Jesus' ultimate sacrifice runs rather strong within a number other Roman Catholic Church teachings. To imply (even indirectly) that what Jesus had to endure to save us from the power of sin as being insufficient is sin.

Eternal damnation (Mt:18:9) The good guys went to the Abode of the Just (Abraham's Bosom), the bad guys when to gehenna. There was a great chasm between the two places and there was no way to get to one side from the other. (Mt:18:9). Christ descended into hell on Good Friday so he could rescue the righteous from the part of hell where the righteous were.(1 Pt 3:18-19) Jesus is the only way to Heaven so it was important that he descended to the dead. (Jn 14:6) Jesus didn't go to hell as a dead guy. He went there as the Saviour. Jesus blew down the doors of the Abode of the Just and grabbed out every faithful servant of God from the beginning of history. He rescued them and freed them from this prison on Holy Saturday. Praise God! That must have been a great party. After Adam's sin, the gates of Heaven were closed, and no one was allowed to enter (John 3:13) until Jesus Christ redeemed the human race and opened the gates once again. Where were the spirits of Moses and Elias, who appeared and spoke with Jesus at the transfiguration (Matthew 17:3)? They could not have been in Heaven since it was closed, and they would have been lost had they been in hell. They had to have been in a third place. If there was a third place then, why not a third place now? What about Lazarus? He was already dead four days (John 11:17) when Jesus arrived at his tomb. Where was his soul during those four days? It could not be heaven or hell for the same reasons as for Moses and Elias. His soul had to have been in a third place. Philippians 2:10 says: "That at the name of Jesus, every knee should bend of those in Heaven, on earth, and 'under the earth'." 'Under the earth', could it mean hell, or is it a third place? Non Catholic theologians struggle trying to reconcile their denial of the existence of Purgatory with what Paul said in 1Corinthians 3:12-15: "Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw- each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire*." To whom do these verses refer? Obviously the person is not in hell, as verse 15 says "himself will be saved". He cannot be in heaven either as the same verse implies suffering, "as through fire", and there is no suffering in heaven. These verses say that man will be purified by fire and then will be saved to enter Heaven. Where will this, "yet as though through fire", take place if not in a third place called Purgatory? "And who shall be able to think of the day of His coming? And who shall stand to see Him? For HE IS LIKE A REFINING FIRE, and like the fuller's herb; AND HE SHALL SIT REFINING AND CLEANSING THE SILVER. AND HE SHALL PURIFY THE SONS OF LEVI, AND SHALL REFINE THEM AS GOLD, AND AS SILVER, and they shall offer sacrifices to the Lord in justice." Malachi 3:2-3 "...Strike the Shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn My hand to the little ones. And they shall be in all the earth, said the Lord, TWO PARTS IN IT SHALL BE SCATTERED, AND SHALL PERISH, BUT THE THIRD PART SHALL BE LEFT THEREIN. AND I WILL BRING THE THIRD PART THROUGH THE FIRE, AND WILL REFINE THEM AS SILVER IS REFINED, AND I WILL TRY THEM AS GOLD IS TRIED. THEY SHALL CALL ON MY NAME, AND I WILL HEAR THEM. I WILL SAY: YOU ARE MY PEOPLE. AND THEY SHALL SAY; THE LORD IS MY GOD." Zechariah 13:7-9 "As silver is tried by fire, and gold in the furnace, so the Lord tries the hearts." Proverbs 17:3. The metal refiner watches the silver, for if the process is longer than necessary, the silver will be harmed. "He shall sit refining and cleansing the silver. And he shall purify the sons of Levi, and shall refine them as gold, and as silver..." Malachi 3:3. HE KNOWS THE PROCESS IS COMPLETE WHEN HE CAN SEE HIS OWN IMAGE REFLECTED IN THE SILVER. GOD SAID, "LET US MAKE MANKIND IN OUR IMAGE AND LIKENESS." Genesis 1:26 "...Woe is me, because I have held my peace; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people that has unclean lips, and I have seen with my eyes the King of the Lord of Hosts. And one of the Seraphims flew to me, and in his hand was a live coal, which he had taken with the tongs off the altar. And he touched my mouth and said, 'BEHOLD THIS HAS TOUCHED YOUR LIPS, AND YOUR INIQUITIES SHALL BE TAKEN AWAY, AND YOUR SIN SHALL BE CLEANSED'." Isaiah 6:5-7 What can this possibly mean other than a purgation of sins through fire? In 1Peter 3:19, Christ preached to the spirits in prison. What spirits? What prison? We will become pure spirits only after we die, so the spirits have to be the spirits of the dead. Prison cannot mean Heaven, and souls in hell are lost forever. Prison must mean a third place. 1Peter 4:6, the Gospel was preached "even to the dead". Again, where were these dead? Matthew 12:32, "...but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him either in this world or in the world to come." This passage alludes to another world in which some sins will be forgiven. What other world? Again it could not be either Heaven or hell. Hebrews 12:23, "...and to the Church of the Firstborn who are enrolled in the heavens, and to GOD, THE JUDGE OF ALL AND TO THE SPIRITS OF THE JUST MADE PERFECT." We have already seen from Revelation 21:27 that nothing imperfect will enter heaven, and in Hebrews 12:23, the spirits of the just are made perfect. Revelation 22:14 shows that there will be a cleansing before admission to the tree of life and entrance through the gates of the city. Where will all of this happen if not in a third place? "For everyone shall be salted with fire, and every victim shall be salted." Mark 9:48. What fire, but the purification fire of Purgatory? "But that servant who knew his masters will, and did not make ready for him and did not act according to his will, will be beaten with many stripes." Luke 12:47. Are people beaten in Heaven? Those in hell are lost, so where will this punishment be fulfilled? Very strong evidence that a third place exists, is in 2Maccabees 12:38-46: "...it is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to Pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins." If there are only Heaven and hell, why then does Scripture ask us to pray for the dead? If the dead are in hell, prayer is useless. If the dead are in Heaven, prayer is not needed. Therefore there has to be a third place where prayers are needed. St. Paul prayed for his dead friend Onesiphorus in 2Timothy 1:18, "May the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that day." Why would Paul pray for the dead if he thought his friend to be in heaven or hell where prayers would help neither? The greatest torment in Purgatory is to be separated from GOD for a period of time. Remember, in this life we have five senses, and they are always a distraction for us when we try to concentrate on things of GOD such as prayer. After we leave this life, we are spirit and have lost our five senses. There are no more distractions. Purgatory should be regarded as a great blessing from GOD. Even though souls there are in torment, it is only a temporary torment. All who go there are assured of eventually gaining the Kingdom of Heaven. It sure beats the third alternative...🤣

@@biblealone9201 The idea of purgatory has its roots stemming as far back as the writings of many pagan philosophers. It is no mystery that during the time of the church in Rome, prior to the rule of Emperor Constantine and the establishment of the Roman Catholic Church, there would have been no acceptance of pagan influences fused into God's church. The church at Rome was aware of what the Holy Spirit spoke to the seven churches in the book of Revelation; especially, the church at Laodicea: no lukewarmness; no compromise. The Roman Catholic Church took-on a number of pagan influences (including the idea of purgatory), resulting in the christianization of such influences. To not accept the above fact as truth, is to put the Holy Scriptures in a position to be twisted, in order to suit the teachings of a church that still holds to influences not initiated by God from the beginning.

Its even more sad you missed the message in the video especially the part where he specifically says purgatory is only for those who's sins were forgiven by the blood of Christ. I can only assume you misinterpreted OUR book too, along with the plethora of others that you dont even agree with. So You are certainly welcome to believe and profess whatever you want to believe, there are plenty of differing beliefs in the world today. But to glean this from the historically decidedly Catholic Trinitarian book is just plain silly… History shows us that Jesus didn't leave us a bible, - the apostles didn't tell us which books belong in the bible, - the church fathers never agreed on the 27 books of the NT through the 4th century and ONLY the 27 books, - not only did they not agree but their individual lists of would-be NT canons were GROWING during this time, growing in numbers of hundreds of “inspired” NT writings. Becky! You hit the nail on the head. As I’ve already commented, there is nowhere in Scripture that mentions the word purgatory. If we were to adhere to the doctrines of the Catholic Church, then the thief on the cross next to Jesus would have been told, “Ahh sorry buddy, but you have to go to purgatory first and be cleansed.” Instead, Jesus told him that he would be with Him in paradise. We, as Christians, are offered salvation through Grace alone. Not through works or merit as the Catholic Church teaches.

I feel sorry for you, Protestant, because you have no idea what will happen to your soul after death. If it were true, as you say, that the souls of people after death go to heaven regardless of what sins people committed on earth, then why do people (although they are sinners) on earth create legal systems and the Justice System and criminals go to prison for long periods of time? years instead of being released because they believe in God? Have you forgotten about God's justice and free will, for which you are responsible before God? Since Jesus Christ is the same for Catholics and Protestants, I will read something to you that you should remember. Jesus Christ said to Saint Sister Maria Faustina Kowalska: "Souls are perishing despite my bitter suffering. I am giving them the last resort, this is the feast of My mercy. If they do not adore My mercy, they will perish forever. Secretary of My mercy, write, tell souls about this great My mercy, because The terrible day is near, the day of my justice" (Diary, 965) . In another place, Saint Sister Maria Faustyna Kowalska writes: "I saw the Guardian Angel, who told me to follow him. In an instant, I found myself in a foggy place, filled with fire, and in it a whole lot of suffering souls. These souls pray very fervently, but without effect for ourselves, only we can come to their aid. (...) We left the door of this prison of purgatory. I heard an inner voice that said: "My mercy does not want it, but justice requires it" (Diary, 20). Saint Padre Pio said about the fire in Purgatory: "If the Lord allowed a soul to pass from this fire to the most burning flames on this earth, it would be like passing from hot water to cold." You, Ptotestant, pity us Catholics for not knowing the truth about purgatory, and yet we can feel sorry for you, because at least we know what awaits us after death, and you will only learn about it when you die one day and there will be no it's a nice experience for you. The Protestants removed books from the Old Testament that were inconvenient to them, and that is why you do not know that Judah Maccabee prayed for the souls of his companions. Don't feel sorry for us, Catholics, because we know the truth about purgatory, but you, Protestants, will know the truth about purgatory when you die one day.

We never said Jesus didn't finish what he started on the Cross. He completed his mission on the cross, however, he has not finished the work in us yet because our like has not ended yet. We are still being sanctified and we are still being perfected. So, most of what you said is a strawman argument. You prove our point in by quoting Lk 18. That is referring to Jesus fulfilling the law and His death on the cross. John 17. Jesus did accomplish the work of redemption making it possible for us to now be saved and go to heaven. However, we are still being sanctified and perfected by grace and the Holy Spirit. Just like the words saved and justification, the word sanctification is used in 3 different ways, with applications to the past, to the present and being sanctified, and to the future we will be sanctified. Hebrews 10:14 - For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. 2 Cor. 7:1 - Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, and make holiness perfect in the fear of God. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 - It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality. 1 Cor. 1:18 - For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. Rom. 6:22 - But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the return you get is sanctification and its end, eternal life. 1 Cor. 3:12 - May the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all men, as we do to you, 13 so that he may establish your hearts without blame in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

And those whom He PREDESTINED He also CALLED, and those whom He CALLED He also JUSTIFIED, and those whom He JUSTIFIED he also GLORIFIED. Hebrews 10:10 And by that will WE HAVE BEEN SANCTIFIED through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE FOR ALL. FOR BY A SINGLE OFFERING HE HAS PERFECTED FOR ALL TIME THOSE WHO ARE BEING SANCTIFIED. And the Holy Spirit also BEARS WITNESS to us; for after saying,“I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds NO MORE.” Where there is forgiveness of these, there is NO LONGER ANY OFFERING FOR SIN. We never said we can achieve perfection by your own merits. We literally spent the first few minutes of the video stating the express opposite. You need to listen better friend. Yes we are sinners (which are all the verses you quoted) but we can be fully sanctified by Christs work. Jesus told us to be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:48. He would not have called us to this if it's not possible. It's all His work and His grace working in us which you don't seem to comprehend. It's not our work. I feel fundamentalists like yourself have taken away all free will from humans and all free agency so that we can't do anything and are incapable of doing anything. But this is false. Christ doesn't use us like computers or drive us like cars. Christ says "WITHOUT HIM" you cannot do anything (Jn. 15), but with Him we can do all things (Phil 2:12). 1 Thessalonians 5:23 - And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. James 2:1-4 - Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you _may be perfect_ and _complete, lacking in nothing._ Romans 12:2 - Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. - And there are other verses too.
