It seems like Scripture is so solid, and Tradition is so ephemeral. Why should we trust that God has revealed himself to us in Sacred Tradition? And which traditions, exactly are revealed truths? Catholic Answers' newest apologist, Joe Heschmeyer, explains.

I'm loving Catholic apologetics in 2021, I only really come across Joe recently (or should I say took more notice), I bought his book 'Pope Peter' and it's so refreshing and touched upon many things I've never heard before. Michael Lofton is another great apologist and his channel Reason and Theology which has helped me through so much (issues regarding the magisterium, V2, layperson assent to these etc), it's so refreshing having all these new well read apologist fighting the good fight and giving a new stronger look to Catholicism. Jesus spoke that promise to the apostles, the leaders of his church. It was not given to every believer or heretic who comes along.

Here's something I always wondered: "why do priests molest children?" I've read that hundreds of priests have been convicted of child molestation. Why hasn't the Church addressed this serious and systemic crime?
@bridgefin
@bridgefin Жыл бұрын
Its because of sin which entered all of mankind back in Genesis 3. And the church HAS addressed this issue and it is largely gone. You might ask yourself why Protestants had the same level of abuse but they have failed to address it successfully.

Because the Catholic Church is the modern day Roman Empire and child molestation is part of the culture

Hello I think the problem is putting “tradition” on the same level as scripture What Catholics seem to do is say they can trace their authority back to Peter, and since they think they are a succession of that authority, then what is taught from that seat of authority is truth The problem is that’s the same thing the Pharisees did They sat on the seat of Moses They were supposed to be successors of Moses so their “tradition would be true” But what did Jesus say about their tradition?? And why did he say it was wrong and how did he conclude it? Compared it to scripture If you teach tradition on the same authority level as scripture and it’s not founded in scripture and contradicts it then it’s wrong So saying “we are successors of Peter” doesn’t make your tradition true, let alone the same level as scripture Because it’s the same thing the Pharisees did “We are successors of Moses therefore our tradition is true and authoritative” Now insert Peter for Moses and that’s basically the Catholic argument I don’t think it works I’m not saying we shouldn’t respect any type of authority in the church I’m saying you can’t put tradition on the same level as scripture simply “because the succession from Peter”

I think Catholics would respond by saying that the Holy Spirit worked to ensure the accuracy of the tradition of the Christian church where he did not do the same for the traditions of the Jews and Pharisees. (I'm not a Catholic, but this is what I've heard from Catholics and Orthodox)

For me .I think reformation God allowed it to happen..in order to reach people fast and preach to them fast. And take every thought as soon as possible captive to Christ . It will be hardwork going to preach tradition to people.and it gona take time.. that's why protestant is growing very faaast,

Allowed to happen... Not wanted to happen.. Then He used what's good in it to His intended "Divine Providence" as what He did in Judas' betrayal.

From what writing does Saint Irenaeus mention the necessity of agreeing with the church in Rome? I would love to read it :D

“But since it would be too long to enumerate in such a volume as this the succession of all the churches, we shall confound all those who, in whatever manner, whether through self-satisfaction or vainglory, or through blindness and wicked opinion, assemble other than where it is proper, by pointing out here the successions of the bishops of the greatest and most ancient church known to all, founded and organized at Rome by the two most glorious apostles, Peter and Paul, that church which has the tradition and the faith which comes down to us after having been announced to men by the apostles. With that church, because of its superior origin, all the churches must agree, that is, all the faithful in the whole world, and it is in her that the faithful everywhere have maintained the apostolic tradition” (Against Heresies 3:3:2 [A.D. 189]).

Which Bible do you believe in.. Martin Luther's reduced version of the Catholic Bible, the Catholic Bible, Mormons, etc? Somebody's putting together right now a Bible that person believes is the right one. He's adding the gospel of Thomas and Judas. The Catholic Church searched and gathered and chose from around 25k manuscripts. Who identifies which ones are genuine? If you use the Catholic Bible, it implies you acknowledge the Catholic Church's God given authority to identify which is true or not.
