Dr Pitre’s explanations of scripture are the best. The insights into God’s Word he reveals FULLY reflect the truth, goodness, beauty and teachings of our Catholic faith. Unchanged and steadfast. If everyone knew what they don’t know, they’d be Catholic.

Dr. Pitre, I believe you are one of my favorite scripture teachers, if not ... the favorite❤ In the books of Visionary, Maria Valtorta, Jesus was not asleep. He had been told by Peter to take a place in the boat where he wouldn't be "in the way"(!) (Peter was a "master" sailor) and Jesus purposefully stayed in a "sleeping" position to wait for them to turn to Him. Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us (arrogance), and on the whole world.

@Stephanus DeSantis What everyone doesn't know is that she was given an imprimatur by Pope Pius XII, I believe. But "Vatican II", which we know has gotten rid of a lot of good people, removed the imprimatur! And that is searchable if you would like to do that. www.defendingmedjugorje.com/Pages/Maria.htm

@@lonelyberg1808 Yes you are exactly right. Through the decades they have proven her validity. It is just that the leftist order of hierarchy in our holy Catholic Church refuses to allow oil to touch our heads in this very heated time of history. Do your own research and you will find. I so love the collection of Maria Valtorta. She has written so many books and so many diaries. The people who observed her said that she wrote without even looking and her pen was in fast motion. I don't know how to explain it any more than that. However; I know that several things she wrote about were things that I had asked the Lord about since I was a little girl and they made great sense to me.

He's honestly just missed the point of the passage entirely. It has nothing to do with Jesus being "God," but that God is at work in Jesus. Trinitarians often make the mistake of saying/seeing "God does X in the OT, Jesus does X in the NT, therefore Jesus must be God." This is entirely wrong. The point is that Jesus claims to come in his Father's name, with his Father's spirit, speaking the words of the Father and doing the works of the Father. Not from himself. Read John 5:19 and 30-31. Jesus says "i can do nothing from myself." It is in the genitive form. "Of" himself or "from" himself. Often translations will put it wrongly in the dative case "by myself." That's not what Jesus said, nor is it what he meant. His point is that the Father does all these works in him and through him. He plainly says this in John 14:5-11. "The Father in me does the works." Not his own "divine identity." Who is this one who commands the storms? Yes, it's God. God does this work "through" Jesus. How does Jesus prove that he is from God and that God is with him? By allowing God to work through him. By allowing the Father to reveal himself through Jesus. This is how the son exegetes the Father in John 1:18. The reason Jesus is at rest while the storms are around him isn't because he thinks to himself "oh well I'm God and i can't die." Jesus does die. On a cross. And so can those he's with. But he has faith that his God will protect him until his time comes. This is why Jesus speaks of his apostles faith. Not faith in himself but faith in their God to protect them. If God is watching over you, you have no need to fear. The question "who is this?" all surrounds the messianic secret. It's not until Mark 8 that you find Peter's confession of who Christ is and he doesn't say "he's God because he saw him rebuke the sea," does he? He calls him "the Christ" which means "the anointed one of God" which means God has placed his spirit on Jesus. Read Acts 2:22. Signs and miracles God did "through" him. This isn't Jesus as God acting in a divine nature. This is God working by his spirit through Christ who is a living sacrifice. Who gave up himself to do whatever God wills through him. Speak, work, even on the Sabbath should be please. They've honestly completely missed the point, not only of this passage but the gospel of Mark overall by trying to dig up the Trinity here, or the deity of Christ.

The following verses maybe don't prove the Trinity, which is a mystery, but help us understand it: a) John 10, 1: 29 The Father, for what he has given me, is greater than anyone, and no one can steal anything from the Father's hand. 30 The Father and I are one. - b) Gen 1, 26: Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’ - c) Gen 3,22: 22And the LORD God said, ‘The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live for ever.’ - d) Is 40,13-14: 13Who can fathom the Spirit of the LORD, or instruct the LORD as his counsellor? 14Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him,and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge, or showed him the path of understanding? - e) John 17, 5: Now, Father, glorify me with that glory I had with you before ever the world existed. - f) Phil. 2, 6-7: Though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

Devon, for your information: ALL what we know about God, be it from Scripture or holy tradition or from elsewhere can ONLY be summarized succinctly in the trinitarian God and hypostatic union in Jesus Christ. Church does this great favour of defining these two aspects only for the benefit of laity (not for showing her intellectual superiority or for causing divisions). Though what you specifically described is satisfactory such a fixed view cannot explain many other aspects, as already pointed out by a response above. We do explain your ‘fully human’ way to show what you exactly tried: that God can work through us. BTW, God incarnated as a human to provide us a real human model too, among others. For the past 2000 years many tried to fit/confine God into their mind (so that they can free from God) only to be deceived.
