@@californiathroughmylens I used to get up before dawn to go take sunrise pictures at Zabriskie Point. I’d get coffee to go at the Ranch which always had about 40 Caterpiller repair trucks in the front. They were maintaining all the Cat equipment at the borax mine.

Lovely! I went down back in 2005 later in the spring when there was an incredible bloom. Flowers everywhere when I was there, but a lot less lake. I do recall there being water… but really I went to see the flowers. Seeing your video brought up some nice memories. I suppose there will be a nice bloom later this spring. I won’t be able to travel this year so I doubly appreciate your video.

On our very first visit and road trip to the US, we were able to see the lake a week ago (2nd week of April). Wasn't aware that it has been there two decades ago also. Love your style of videos and how you present. Used them to also plan our trip. In particular loved your south-west road trip with your dad.

Amazing as usual from the vibes, editing, shots, and narration. :) We went to Death Valley in end of January and were lucky enough to catch the lake as well. Zabriskie Point was a delight at sunrise. Thinking about staying in Vegas and driving over instead of driving over from LA though and staying in the park.

Beautiful place! Love to see somebody so upbeat, full of wonder (even if you've been there several times before) and respectful of the land, sharing your joy with the world! Artist's Drive is one of my faves, sad we didn't see it in this video but maybe next time :) Spotted some military jets doing some donuts in the sky, wonder if any of the pilots got pictures of Lake Manly from up there :)

Oh wow - I had no idea the size of the lake! That is insane! I have some friends that were able to kayak there - kind of a once in a lifetime thing! I'm kind of partial to the name "Manly" as William Lewis Manly hiked out of Death Valley & back in to save my ancestors (Bennett family - the ones stuck in the valley floor in 1849). Loved this :)
@josephregallis33948 ай бұрын
I went there years ago with my friend Harry Johnson and there was no lake and it was incredibly hot even in September! We drove for miles to see the Beehives that were used years ago to make Charcoal. That place was way up high in the mountains and much cooler. If I get back that way, I discovered there are hiking trails up there that I would love to hike on. Driving back down the mountains we could feel the cool temperatures turning hot again! One of my best memories was when we went into the restaurant by Badwater and the hotel and asked to be seated in the no smoking section. The women hostess then told us "you are in California, they are all no smoking sections!".
@TheLastAdventurer8 ай бұрын
The Charcoal Kilns are up around 8K elevation - lots of mining history up there from Skidoo, Aguereberry Camp and Jail Canyon. The Panamint Range is an underappreciated area of the park. As you can see in Josh's video, Telescope Peak - the high point of the range and the park is covered with snow in the winter.
@californiathroughmylens8 ай бұрын
haha that is awesome! Yea, I have never seen a smoking section. I agree that area of the park is really special and most people don't get up there

I was there in early February right before another big storm added more water the lake and it was so beautiful! Also, Stovepipe Wells has the least expensive gas so I always stop there if we can. Hey Josh and viewers. I have a question for anyone California local who may see this: My partner and I have booked a trip from Canada to LA in late June and have been planning a road trip from LA to San Simeon through Big Sur to Caramel by the Sea. As we’ve been planning I’ve noticed the road closure around Limekiln State Park that is detouring all routes that way back to the 101. I’m wondering if you have any insight on this detour and if it’s enough to reconsider our destinations around California. Google says the road will be closed until September. 🤷🏼♀️
@californiathroughmylens7 ай бұрын
Yea, you can't drive all the way through Big Sur right now, so you have to go back out the north. You can always stay in Caramel and then drive down for the day and back to Caramel if that works for your schedule.
