Thank you for the useful tip. Could you tell me whether it is possible to play the bow with the left hand instead of the right? I am left-handed and I feel that this left hand is more expressive and in control.

I can get my D string to sound as it should, but no matter what I do, my A continues to sound scratchy. Any tips?? I have a hard time adjusting from playing one string to the next, and am unsure how to hold the bow properly in order to _play_ the A string, too. Edit: there is actually One place my A string doesn't screech, and that's in a specific spot about an inch above the drum. Except I know you should have the bow right against the surface, so I don't know why the sound is so much worse the lower down I get.

Hello Miss Yang. I can't find any information on how tight the bow should be?. Also, I tried a friend's erhu. I don't seem to have issues on hers. On mine, it squeaks really badly. I used tons of rosin also. Helped a bit. On my friends erhu, I can play the higher notes easily. On mine the higher notes are almost impossible to do without terrible scratching. It's a new erhu. Around 200 bucks..nothing too expensive as I'm new.

In my opinion, if you play your friend’s Erhu without any issues,that's the problem with your erhu:-)

What if does not make sound especially on outer string just slides without sound. I applied rosin but even than. It happens more on extreme humid days. Is there any trick?
@CathyYangMusic3 жыл бұрын
I think you should check out the 2 strings is on the bridge or not? Do you put a small pad under the bridge?
@VagishaDas3 жыл бұрын
@@CathyYangMusic thank you. Yes I have the pad and it is on the bridge. Maybe the bridge is not good or so. I will check that out also. I was suspecting that the bow maybe greasy a little or so. It happens on extremely humid days only. Thank you for the reply.

Cathy! I know that experience counts. And practice counts. But how do you know the exact point at which you press the string on the erhu when there are no markings on the erhu? You and other erhu players will likely have a method of knowing the exact position on the string to hit exactly the correct pitch (eg. concert pitch). What method do you use? When it comes to exact position placement to within 0.1 or 0.01 millimetre along the string, then it's likely that the technique used needs to be more than just experience and muscle memory or feel. Could you explain or teach your method that allows you to put your hand and finger in exactly the right spot, every single time that you pick up the erhu and re-grip the erhu? Thanks Cathy!

When open string my erhu sound stratchy how to solve please ?
Dear Cathy, how do I play the high registers of the notes on the Erhu without a scratchy sound, for example the 3rd and 4th register. The string is then so short that it no longer vibrates properly... It always sounds terrible. Please, help me. 😘
@CathyYangMusic2 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel, it’s very hard to play the high pitch in the Erhu.You can try pressing the strings very lightly with your left hand and play the bow lightly with your right hand. If it doesn’t work maybe your instrument quality is not well?
@danielnerger62392 жыл бұрын
@@CathyYangMusic Dear Cathy, I have already noticed that it is very difficult to play in the higher registers. Your answer is wonderful, thank you very much. I've already noticed the tips you gave me that it's better to play there. Easier bowing and lighter pressure on the string. Thanks again.🙏🙏🙏

Hi, thank you for the great video. I have a problem though; my bow touches both strings when I put it in the correct position (even when I don't move it, it's just right in between and touches them both) therefore I can't make a sound without it being scratchy. I try to put it in the right angle, I really don't know what I'm doing wrong.
@CathyYangMusic3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. 1) You can check if the 2 strings are stuck in the grooves on the bridge? 2) If your bow is new, maybe it’s a bit too hairy…
