Military gear is meant to keep you alive, to survive but not in a way that civilians would like. Both tents are on Catoma's "Clearance" page. There's always at least one reason any product is discontinued, sometimes many reasons. Could be a supplier of materials closed, could be unprofitable, but most of the time it's problems they can't easily resolve. "Clearance" means "Caution!"

One of the real world issues and shortcomings concerning the recent Catoma 'tests' out in the rains was no control group of a few well-'proven' make/model designs. Let's say for a few examples A.) Eureka Assault Outfitter 4 as a very good civilian version 'based on' similar usage and shape... yet much more proven, higher quality, etc. (loved my older model Assault outfitter 2 versions as well) B.) Diamond Brand 2-person USMC mil-spec version (again similar lineage and purpose design), yet once again more proven. C.) Some other 'military' tent of knock-off in similar size ranges.

I'm surprised there wasn't anyone mad that you had anything GOOD to say about a Walmart product 😆
@mikel95674 жыл бұрын
I've had pretty good luck with Walmart products. When I was an EMT full time, I used to bring a backpack with me to work that I would hang in the back of the ambulance. I used their Outdoor Products brand of backpacks. I would guess they weighed probably around 20lbs and I hung them up off the tech net in the back. For 12 hours it would swing around and dangle there. Never once had a failure. We also have used their family tent for camping and don't really have an issue. It does have one pole that is bent, but I think that is more to do with my dumbass sister-in-law getting drunk and messing it up (never let family use your stuff). Walmart stuff isn't exactly top of the line, but it can be pretty good stuff, especially if you're on a budget. On a side note, I have several friends who are avid hikers and into SAR and they have told me numerous times that most camping and hiking crap comes from REI. REI is far more expensive than Walmart and their reputation is crap, and thats saying a lot since they are headquartered here.

@jonreedau814 жыл бұрын
Exactly correct, I don't understand how anybody could say they stepped up- stepping up would be pulling the tents off the market. They would rather have a few thousand dollars in sales instead of harming their reputation. Its almost as if they had waited five years to sell them hoping people would forget they were junk.
@fartman102844 жыл бұрын
It did pass the 5" of rain that the hurricane system threw at it. But the lack of the vent is a good or bad thing. Bad is the humidity buildup inside the tent from no vent. But the vent can be bad if the winds are strong enough for rain to get into the vent and soaking your tent (been there before). It's choices that people need to consider when they buy a tent or set up a tent in inclement weather.
@fartman102844 жыл бұрын
How about if you bought a $350 tent and found it came with a bottle of seam sealer for the fly, would you think it's substandard and yet continue to sell it at full price?
