I think people are exaggerating here. The ears don't hurt them in any way (certainly less than dogs with floppy ears, which account for more than half of dog breeds), hairlessness doesn't hurt them more than it makes them more sensitive to weather (and cats shouldn't live on their own outside anyway), and the short legs, as long as they aren't too short (check Munchkin "rug-hugger"), don't hinder them at all. Now, if they were like English bulldogs, which can't run, play, go for walks, breathe, mate or give birth normally, that would be a completely different matter.

Ok this is an old comment...but what I see is a cat permanently hunched, with short front legs and longer hinder legs. It looks painful. It's literally disabled for the sake of "cuteness" (even if it can somewhat do stuff, it's nowhere near the mobility and agility a cat should have- and what would be healthy also for his behaviour)

@@Badtz2 Believe it or not, dwarf cats can jump and run. They also can reproduce naturally, and do like to play.

I wonder why all hairless cat breeds naturally originate from Russia & then Canada being hairless in such cold countries would be a disadvantage for them.

I had a friend who bought one of these after our first year of college. He only lived to be about... 3 and a half years old. He cost around $2K if I remember correctly. Pros: He was EXTREMELY outgoing with humans and other animals, very relaxed in new situations, very sweet, loved to snuggle and curl up next to you or on you especially if you had a blanket. Very active, didn't have weight issues, etc. You could just wrap him up in a burrito and he would literally go anywhere with you! He didn't care one bit, as long as you were loving on him, he was chill. Cons: Oftentimes their back legs are way longer than their front legs, which will lead to many health problems in the future. They are REALLY energetic and curious, and will get into everything unless you catproof your home as much as possible. The one I knew was also extremely STUPID and often would not learn from negative experiences, such as: "It hurts when I do ___, I will keep doing ___." Hairless cats also need to be bathed WEEKLY. No ifs, ands, or buts. They become super oily because of their lack of fur and cannot keep up with the excess oil, and because of this they will be super duper stinky. Also, again, health issues kept coming up as well. Ultimately, he died from swallowing a sewing needle my friend's sister had unknowingly left on the floor. Understandably, it is easy to lose needles as small as this one was. After surgery to remove the needle, his f*cked up little designer cat body couldn't handle the shock, stress, and immune system response in order to properly recover from the surgery, and he passed. I don't think he made it to his 4th birthday. My friend wants to invest in buying another one, which I strongly disagree with for multiple reasons. She even set up a gofundme and is doing art commissions in order to pay for getting another one. Buying this type of cat creates a demand for MORE unhealthy designer cats like this, therefore perpetuating the designer cat industry that creates miserable and unhealthy animals. PLEASE. For the love of god, do NOT let yourself or your friends or relatives even THINK of purchasing an animal like this. You are not only encouraging breeders to keep on creating miserable cats for the 'aesthetic', but you are also taking away the chance for a perfectly healthy, sweet, trainable, lovely cat to get a home, increasing the number of cats that are euthanized in shelters every day simply because there are not enough resources or space available to keep them all until they find homes. You will always be able to find a cat that will tolerate being swaddled, dressed in shirts and sweaters, and be outgoing and social with animals and humans in literally ANY cat breed. There is no excuse for buying a cat like this for its temperament alone. You can find dozens that will behave just like this one in a shelter, and I promise you, it will love much, much longer, and you will deal with far fewer vet appointments due to genetic disabilities that were bred into it. Please do not buy these cats or even support the existence of this breed. It's heatbreaking for both the cat and the owner to commit to supporting the breeding of this cat.

I like this show, but they seem to have problems noting that hairless breeds can produce normal kittens. The peterbald can come in hairless, flocked, or brush stroke (fully furred). And given the fact that the Sphynx came from furred cats, and the other two breeds are also furred...isn’t there a chance to have a furry-coated Dwelf?

Not if you're breeding them to other sphynx. The gene in sphynx are also different than the gene causing hairlessness in the donskoy. So it affects these cats different

Bloodi Rose I fail to understand what point you're trying to make here, so let's just get down to the last sentence that caught my attention mostly. ''In other words, a cat like this, or any breed where they have bred them to be more reliant on humans is if anything better'' so, basically what you're saying is, it's ok to play with genetics and create so-called cute cats, as long as they're unable to hunt ''native wildlife''. funnily enough tho, one of the biggest threats to such native wildlife (like certain kinds of birds) are humans, with the loss of habitat and pest control for agriculture being the main ones. breeds such as the american shorthair (which is known to be an excellent hunter), don't even come close to what humans can inflict on such native wildlife. so you're argument's pretty weak on that matter, don't you think? genetics should simply not be played with like that. like a certain cat behavior specialist said once: ''only if you can do it, doesn't mean you should'' you shouldn't just go around and breed sphynx cats with bambinos, only because you're curious to how cute the outcome will be. that is very fucking sick, disgusting, awful and extremely disrespectful.

I think it is horrifying the lengths people will go to to mutate their animals for no good reason except they think it looks "cute", which it doesn't. Dwarfism in cats serves no purpose, it is not good for their survival, either. How can this be anything but pure selfishness on the part of humans? And it isn't attractive, either.

Really? Cats have relied on humans for a long time. They have lived alongside humans and people have taken them to all corners of the globe to live with. Without us, we would be forced to kill the poor things in most cases anyway. If anything creating a cat such as this is better. As cats are one of the number one killers of native wildlife. In other words, a cat like this, or any breed where they have bred them to be more reliant on humans is if anything better.
