Exactly. I'd rather have something be memorably bad than forgettable bad. For example, I might be in the minority, but I found Superman Returns to be even worse than Superman 4. Why? Superman Returns took no risks and just rehashed the 1978 film (the land plot, and using Lex as the main villain again). What we got was a bloated unexciting 2.5 hour snooze fest.

So all cats that he wrote about were her Jellicle cats and all dogs were her Pollicle dogs. In a letter to an associate, Eliot explained an idea he had for the last poem of his book (the poem was never written. The idea only existed in this letter, and was taken by Andrew Lloyd Webber and added to the musical), where all the cats and dogs would ride balloons up up up, to the Heaviside Layer.

My mom is always telling my sisters and me the story of how she walked away for ten minutes and came back to see her three eldest, as her fourth was not even alive yet, colored head to toe in washable marker, dancing around as if we were the actors on the stage. She had recorded on tape the PBS showing of Cats some years before and it was our favorite movie! It is still a favorite of mine. The old tape is long gone, but the new movie captured the magic and awe that inspired us, and me in particular, all those years ago. Was it a cinematic masterpiece? No. But it reawakened the joy that made me love musicals in the first place. It maybe just nostalgia painting the movie with a rose tinted lens, but Cats the Movie is work of art that I love.

Anyone would've been better than Tom Hooper. His choices completely bastardized the original score by letting the ACTORS lead the orchestra instead of the two working in tandem. He also completely misunderstood the importance of Victoria and the importance of touch to the jellical cats by not only having Victoria as the main character when Cats really didn't have one and by having Grizzabella recoil from being touched by Victoria despite the fact that all she wants is to be a jellical cat again (that's the whole point of her final belt in Memory) and by having Victoria TOUCH HER TO HELP HER STAND RIGHT BEFORE SHE BELTS OUT THAT FINAL PART OF MEMORY!!! This whole thing legitimately makes me angry
