Since Disney is giving their villains origin movies I’ve got an interesting one for Hook. In the books Peter would actually kill the Lost Boys when started to get too old. Wendy would ask him and say “they became pirates”. Hook starts out as a Lost Boy until he starts to see that there’s something wrong with Peter. After questioning is authority, Peter tries to kill him but escapes. He fully dawns on the pirate persona with other former lost boys to combat Peter. It reveals that Peter kills the Lost Boys so he can stay young. An offering to a magical crocodile, aka: Tick Tock the Croc. And Hook tries to extend a hand to Peter hoping the could be friends but Peter pull Vader and chops it off. Offering it to Croc.

“With moments of the extraordinary dropped in” Probably the best way to describe it. A lot of the changes they made just don’t work very well, Tiger Lily being a major example. However, I think the visuals are some of the best in any Peter Pan project. Even the mining scenes which look bland or dull are still suitably epic in scale considering it’s literally showing child slavery. I also liked Jackman’s performance of Blackbeard and I especially like they didn’t make him exactly like Hook (in comparison…Hook should’ve been more like Hook with at least an anger issue or a dark streak to imply villainous things in his future). Blackbeard comes off as completely unstable, a man who can switch between emotions at the drop of the hat for almost no apparent reason. And I think that’s what the performance is meant to convey. But beyond those two things they really screwed themselves with this film. As it is people aren’t really fans of Chosen One stories anymore, but it’s so strange that they decided a Peter Pan story needed one when the entire story is already right in front of them. They could’ve even looked at any of the other spin-offs and taken ideas. The review mentions how the Robin Williams film had the Lost Boys come from different time periods and then gave them different period outfits to subtly show that. Great idea, makes perfect sense for the narrative, add more ideas like that and less like Peter being some special fairy boy. I didn’t even mind the orphanage being in league with the pirates, they just never explained why lol.

@@ZemeckisTEN There's also the Guillermo del Toro version of Pinnochio coming out--I just saw a teaser trailer for it and am curious how it will turn out. The Pete's Dragon reboot was actually pretty good (though I didn't grow up with the original film), so if it's as good as that, having the same person behind it, I have hope for it. And I really liked the Disney Cinderella remake, though I know what you mean. Lots of the reboots haven't been good the last several years.

I'm guessing the reason why Hook isn't evil yet It's because they were setting it up for a sequel or trilogy where he would gradually become the pirate Captain Hook and Peter's Arch nemesis But because of poor Box office sales and negative reviews from audiences and critics it'll never happen

Hook could easily be portrayed as a more sympathetic character without changing him at all. Imagine being a privateer captain and getting lost. You find yourself in a strange land, where a native tribe and a bunch of lost CHILDREN kill your scouting parties any time you send them out. Honestly kidnapping the chief's daughter is one of the least violent ways to solve that problem historically.

I just want people to know I had a friend in school who knew people that work for the movie industry. In late 2011 early 2012 she told me “ hey did you hear that Hollywood is running out of ideas and they are going to be making reboots”. I don’t believe her at first but now 10 years later she was right. It’s the fact that things like this are planned out so years ago Hollywood made an decision to rehash classics and make money off nostalgia and it really makes me feel a certain way 🙄

My dad and I happened to be there the night they were getting rid of the display and they asked us if we wanted any of it. I liked the cardboard box with the title on it so we took that. We found my mom in another store in the mall and she made us go back for the cardboard cutout of Hugh Jackman. Cardboard Jackman got bent up or something but I think we still have the title box somewhere.

I think a few good ideas for the movie would've been to, obviously, have hook actually be British, and maybe to have had him be the captain of a ship on earth, and he was commanding a fleet of ships during a war. But then the ships are destroyed, and hook is the only one that survives, and the pirates just so happened to have flown by the aftermath and saw hook floating on some wood in the water. They pick him up and take them back with him, it gives him a somewhat interesting bakcstory, and a possibly better character than whatever Tremos knockoff character he was depicted as in the movie. I also think it would've been a good idea if the prophecy was revealed to be a lie, and the whole thing was a long elaborate trick to get Pan to lead Blackbeard to the fairyland. And when it's revealed to Peter that it was all a lie, but he learns that it doesn't matter that it was a lie, because he believed that he could save all of Neverland, and it was belief that got him this far, which is when he believes in himself enough to start flying. Maybe some of that sounds dumb, I'm just trying to help make a dumpster fire a little bit more of a tire fire, it's still not great, but atleast a burning tire smells slightly better than burning garbage
