There's no band like Cattle Decapitation. They're their own genre at this point. Since Monolith, these guys have put nothing but masterpieces. The new album is gonna be amazing. From the singles I can predict that it crosses the last three and expands the sound even further. Possible AOTY contender? Maybe, but I know I'm gonna jam this over and over and over again for the entire year. Until I get to listen to it tomorrow, Anthropocene is my favorite of them so far.
@TheThirteenthSon Жыл бұрын
First of all, hearing someone recognize Anthropocene for the absolute masterpiece that it is warms my heart. That album started my journey into extreme metal in earnest, and to this day I'm still haunted and viscerally chilled by damn near every song. Your assessment of Death Atlas surprises me, but it's fair. While I felt at the time that it was the perfection of their craft, I now am inclined to say it was the next natural progression from two of the greatest albums ever. I still am inclined to say it was the greatest at that time, though it really depends on the day, I think that specific contenders from Monolith and Anthro beat it. I definitely believe that Vulturous, The Geocide, One Day Closer to the End of the World and the closing trio are tied for their greatest with a few others, but that's just me. I have trouble ranking songs, they all resonate with me. The atmosphere they create is unlike anything I've ever really felt in this particular corner of metal, I see Behemoth and Insomnium and Heilung and Rotting Christ being able to rival it but I've always felt that Cattle's bleak settings captured each album theme and really drove it through. Monolith is fiery and brutal, Anthro is gloomy and frigid, Death Atlas is despondent and truly feels like the end... And all that brings me to Terrasite, which, while too early to properly evaluate, really is feeling to me like it may be their greatest composition of all time. Totally agree with every point you made in your review, and this one is feeling like it may have rounded out the few bits I felt were missing on Death Atlas (a couple tracks felt a tad weak to me). Not to mention the sheer brutality of 10 back to back slamming tracks, I enjoyed the developed structure they've followed for the last few and I was surprised they deviated, but I was by no means disappointed. I knew it meant real shit when they launched straight into Solistalgia without hesitation. I do hope they remaster/redo The Harvest Floor one day like what Ingested recently did with The Surreption, it would benefit massively from a touch of their new ability and production quality and really shine for how sick it is. Ultimately, can't wait to see them once more when they tour with Dark Funeral in Denver. Hail Cattle!

Just re-posting what I said on a terrasite album upload. Well terrasite, this is my album of the year for me hands down no contest. it's no surprise to me honestly it's cattle decapitation for fuck sake. Ever since that Huge shift from the Harvest floor to the absolute death metal masterpiece that is monolith of inhumanity, this band has just been a decade-long streek-like monolith of inhumanity, the Anthropocene extinction, Death Atlas, and now Terrasite. From the lyrics to the musicianship to the production everything they have made after the harvest floor has been nothing but perfection in my eyes. Also, one thing can't really shut up about is how all these years, Travis fuckin Ryan hasn't aged a damn bit man he is every bit as brutal and furious with his melodic and goblin-like vocals and the dude is close to fucking 50 years old Not to mention he despite his hate for deathcore has inspired so many death metal vocalists under his name it's insane man like vocalists like dickie alen of infant annihilator and will Ramos of Lorna shore to name a couple of examples. Anything in the death metal scene right now at the moment as far as I'm concerned is nothing compared to terrasite in terms of brutality, sheer fury, and overall greatness in my opinion. album of the year for me no contest man LONG LIVE CATTLE DECAPITATION.

Monolith is my favourite and their best imo. It hits the right balance of everything. When I first heard that album I was completely blown away, and still am. Anthropocene and Death Atlas are great, and I understand why they are so well liked, but felt a lot more formulaic and dare I say it ~safe~. The goblin vocals are so insane and demented on Monolith, and I just don't get the same feeling from the following two albums. Keen to give Terrasite a few spins

The quality and quantity of the goblin singing on The Anthropocene Extinction and Death Atlas make them the best imo. The 'singing' is, to me, their x-factor. The title track of the latter i.e. Death Atlas is my favourite track from them probably. The emotional weight of it is crushing imo, and completely earns the track-length. Different strokes for different people though. Love the video. Even if I'm not even a fan of Death Metal, Cattle Decapitation is my favourite band and probably one of the like 4 I can actually enjoy.

I find it incredibly tough to rank certain discographies. I recently got in to Cattle Decapitation after watching some reviews from you and The Metal Meltdown. They have quickly become one of my favourite bands, but I also keep on adding more to that list. Love the ideas of their albums. There's a lot of thought put in to it, and the sound is a perfect mixture of brutality and melodics. Travis Ryan is easily one of my favourite metal vocalists now. I'm quite bad at ranking discographies. I love doing so, but I always end up putting half in perfection / fantastic, and the other half in good / okay. xD When it comes to the 4 lastest albums from Cattle Decapitation, I simply can't pick. Love them equally, and I find them all perfect in their own right. The two albums before these were great, but I don't have anything in fantastic. I haven't listened to the ones before Karma. I will order their 4 lastest on vinyl. Sometimes I regret getting in to vinyl. There are many drawbacks, especially availability and price. I've reached a point of no return, though. Got over 100 vinyls, and I've only been collecting for about 16 months. Most of them have been bought new. You occasionally mention your CD collection. Do you also frequently listen to it? Half of the enjoyment is just collecting physical media and supporting the artists, and that goes for both vinyl and CD. The same is true for Protest the Hero, Meshuggah, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Deftones, Mr. Bungle and Opeth. Incredibly strong discographies. Nothing less than great / B beside one from Meshuggah and two from Opeth.

I do think that, with Death Atlas, the stand-outs like the singles and title track are fucking 11/10s, but the songs in-between don't grab me that strongly. I think that with Terrasite, every song has pieces that hook me and make me want to put them on in order to hear those moments without missing a single one, and that puts it above Death Atlas for me. Also, them bringing the chords and theme of Death Atlas in the last track is a really fantastic conclusion. Definitely a contender for my favorite CD album but still requires more listens to cement that. (Seperately, I really love the bass tone and still going for that older, early 00s death metal sound instead of having the Dingwall/Darkglass sound. Not that that's bad in its own right, but it can get exhausting hearing it everywhere.)

Cattle Decap is my favorite Death Metal band ever. Here is my ranking (all of these are good btw) 1: Monolith of Inhumanity It has the classics like Forced Gender Reassignment, Your Disposal, Kingdom of Tyrants, everything here is great. It has their best music video as well. (FGR) Masterpiece album; 10/10 2: The Anthropocene Extinction The only reason why this one isn't #1 is because Monolith is more iconic for me. But this is a masterpiece as well; 10/10 3: Death Atlas This is maybe the best sounding Cattle record. Personally, I don't agree with some of their views, but they get their message through without it being annoying. 10/10 4: The Harvest Floor Every song has an iconic moment. My favorite song on this is A Body Farm. This one is perfect. 10/10 5: Terrasite Best album of 2023 for sure. It is an instant goddamn classic. We Eat Our Young, A Photic Doom, all songs are amazing. 9.8/10 6: Karma.Bloody.Karma Love the technicality of the entire album. Unintelligent Design is still a banger to this day. 8/10 7: Humanure The songwriting is superb. I love that the production sounds like manure too. 8/10 8: To Serve Man The album cover is iconic, but the production kind of ruins it for me. Still good tho. 7.5/10 9: Human Jerky This is a borderline pornogrind album when looking at the lyrics. I have a good laugh every time I listen to it. 7/10 10: Homovore My least favorite Cattle record, but it is still solid. 7/10

After watching this tier list, im definitely reworking my ranking. Imma be honest with y'all, I had death atlus in C, why.........I don't know lol. It's definitely an A tier for me, I think I was just having a horrible day yesterday and wasn't thinking straight. I prefer Monolith and anthropocene though because I feel death atlus is too long and the interlude tracks weren't implemented that well for me, plus sometimes I feel the instrumentation is a little too simplistic, but I'd say it's done that way so that Travis' vocals can stand out more and I feel it succeeds with that since this is probably my favorite travis performance (for now, gotta wait to say fully cause terrasite's not out 😢), but his cleans on there are just commanding and beautiful at times too, it's just I wish the album got just little bit more chaotic in places for my tastes. Anyway, nice video and ranking too, I'd say we have the same spots, but 1 and again, terrasite not out😢, but mainly 2, i prefer monolith more than anthropocene personally, but I could see anthropocene with another listen or 2 just curb stomping monolith, it's just I've relistened to monolith more is why I have it ranked higher. Hope to see more lists soon since think they're great and makes me rethink on how I feel about certain albums, plus get to see more albums haven't heard of before too.

I was first intrigued by these guys when To Serve Man came out. At the time it was too extreme for me. Didn't listen to them again until Monolith forward. Of course Death Atlas was stuck on repeat when jt was released. I still feel that Manufactured Extinct/Prophets of Loss seque into each other perfectly. I have since gone back ti give the older releases another listen and appreciate them more. Terrasite has been a consistent listen these past few days

I was never a back in the day, I found them boring.. But ever since I heard the Goblin Choir/Clean vocals I found them far more interesting. Those sections give the band what it sorely needed, and that was contrast. Silence/Slowing down and melody make the heavier heavier, and it makes it feel earnt rather than an endless onslaught.

I forgot cattle went through a small technicalish phase with the harvest floor! I fucking loved that album when it came out.... had no idea what was to come.

I binged on your videos for the past week and I was wondering when / if you're gonna do a ranking of Cattle's albums lol.

Hell yeah! 🤘🏼🤘🏼(edit) it’s ok you don’t see the brilliance of Death Atlas, their opus magnificence imo Just great to see you rush through their discography in 10 mins 😂 cmon man

I’m probably just super non-critical but once Monolith came out, that album and every album after goes straight to S-tier. Dead End Residents has to be a damn near perfect song imo.

I always felt that way about Death Atlas. By no means a bad album. Just not up to snuff with monolith and anthropocene.

Anthropocene Extinction was my favourite album, but I just can't get enough of Terrasite. It completely blew that album out of the water, definitely their best work to date in my opinion.

"Death Atlas" & "Terrasite" is on the very top.(Masterpieces!) Followed on second place by a great "Anthropocene". Third place is the very raw 🤘 "Monolith of Humanity". The rest i do not even listen to. Overall ,Cattle Decapitation is currently holding the number 1 spot on my favorit Metal bands list.

Dope list, Monolith is a modern day classic. So far Travis has avoided the pitfall of his goblin vocals being gimmicky ala Dave from Anaal Nathrakh. No shade, I still love AA. Speaking of, next tier list maybe…???
@MetalTrenches Жыл бұрын
Good call. Yes I probably will do AA at some point.

Definitely gotta say my favorite by far is monolith but terrasite is a contender.
