What a cute little Cattleya. The shape of the lip is a real eye-catcher. I always enjoy your beautiful grow room in the background. I was recently told to get rid of those boring Phals and get more of these rewarding Cattleyas. ;)
@GardeningatDouentza9 жыл бұрын
+Bumblebee Ha ha. Thank you. I think every collection needs a few phals at least. My husband can't understand why I don't have more as they flower for so long. Loving the new channel, by the way.
@bumblebeesorchids34089 жыл бұрын
+Gardening at Douentza Thanks so much, Rachel! :) I guess there are two sides to every question. I think I will let go one or two of the Phals in favour of one or two more Cattleyas. Will you show your Baldan’s Kaleidoscope when it’s in bloom? I’m looking forward to the flowers of a similar no-id Phal. that is finally in spike again.

That is such an intresting orchid :X I love the shape and the lines on the lip . Just gourgeous. And I think its great its a smaller version, cos at least I am in lack of space because of my other very tall catts. I definitly will have this one on my order next year :) Congrats for your flowers !

Same to you! Oh, I forgot to ask you someting. In one of your vids I heard that you dont use hydr perox when repoting orchids. Then how do you deal with snails when you repot new orchids at least?? Thank you!
@GardeningatDouentza9 жыл бұрын
+Ana Maria Clapon I put slug poison pellets on the bark. They last until the next watering and then you have to remove them with tweezers before watering.
@MiracleOrchids19 жыл бұрын
+Gardening at Douentza that sounds complicated... Did you ever have a case in which your method didn't work and you still had snails? how do you figure out the quantity of pellets you should put in your orchid pot? I did read the specifications, and I remember I was quite confused, also cos it's toxic for our pets .
@GardeningatDouentza9 жыл бұрын
+Ana Maria Clapon There is nothing complicated about slug pellets. You just sprinkle some on. Pets don't eat them. What can happen is that a slug eats one and dies and then a bird might eat the slug and get poisoned. And, yes, sometimes slugs escape. The little devils!

beautiful cattleya. i like the fact that you showed its real size since i had seen this cattleya close up so i was thinking that its much bigger than i saw in your video. thanks for sharing.

It's encouraging to see that your forbesii has canes that look almost exactly like mine! :) Andrea's forbesii is so nice as well. I know it already! Mine has a really healthy new growth coming along and I hope it feels in the mood to flower. My plant had like, pale neon green leaves when I got it because it was growing under a lamp, but it has greened up and looks much more normal now compared to other catts.

Rachel I am so excited to have a C.G. Roebling coming in the mail and should be here by Friday. I think I got the bug to have one from seeing yours. It is blooming size in a 4 or 5 inch pot.
@GardeningatDouentza9 жыл бұрын
+Jackie Binkley Oh congratulations, Jackie. You will love that. Which cultivar is it? I've never heard of one that wasn't fabulous though :)
@jackiebinkley43919 жыл бұрын
+Gardening at Douentza The cultivar "Sentinel" I am also getting a Laelia Tenebrosa. Currently looking for some more Tolumneas as they are so small and don't take up much room but give lots of flower power.
@GardeningatDouentza9 жыл бұрын
+Jackie Binkley Excellent, Jackie. I'm not long with C. tenebrosa myself but so far it seems like a great species. Mine is going to flower again. Any cattleya that blooms more than once a year is invaluable. I have heard from people in warmer climates who flower C.G. Roebling more than once a year so I hope that will happen to you. Never tried tolumnias but they do look soooo pretty :) Enjoy!

Mine is in flower just now! You are spot on about everything...the light colored leaves, how fast they produce a flower once they grow a new PB! Mine is in a clay pot with lava rock and it's covered the inside and outside of the pot with roots!!!! I have no idea how I'd repot mine but that will be a problem for another year...

Very lovely. When I ordered mine, I thought I would get one of the same size as yours, since most of the people I know have small ones. I got an unusually tall plant. :) Mine also get yellowish with light. What do you think of the fragrance, how would you describe it? I like it a lot, but I don't know what it reminds me of. Some sort of fruity fragrance, with a hint of rust (though it sounds really weird). :D Mine has darker flowers. Though some can be even darker, and some have a very slight hint of red in the brownish color. Some are very bright yellow, and some have an yellow that's almost green. It's a lovely orchid. I fell in love with it. :) Thanks for mentioning my video! :) I'll add a card to your video on mine as well.

+Orchids & a Dutchy Do you know, I never noticed a fragrance but I've just held it close to my nose and I do detect something. I am not good with smells. It is a lovely orchid and one I am pleased to have in my collection. If you want to add a card to my video then thank you. I thought your variety was very interesting and worth a look is people were interested in the plant. Thanks for watching. PS I've just found out that my pronunciation is wrong. The species is named after a guy called Forbes so the pronunciation should reflect that, not the Latin!

I never realized mine should look like this. LOL I bought it like that and thought that it was always just failure to thrive. My other Catts are super green and the bulbs are juicy. This one of mine, I put it outside ready to give up on it. :p

Thanks for sharing this video...i finally got one just a week ago..hopefully blooming size..now all i need is C. luteola and i think my mini species C. list will be complete. Like the flowers..do yours have any scent?
@GardeningatDouentza9 жыл бұрын
+TD Moore How surprising that you don't have one already and you with that enormous collection! No, I can't detect any scent. Unfortunately.
@TDMoorethanjustORCHIDS9 жыл бұрын
It was on my list for years and honestly i use to have one but i think it was a sick one because it never grew well for me so i gave it away...but i recently bought one cheap and it is putting out a strong new growth and has nice roots and is just sitting in a pot without media so i'm hopeful it will soon look as good as yours
