How about some TORQUE TESTS? Isn't that what this product is all about, preventing rotation of the part on the shaft?

I haven't seen it made clear that anaerobic setting compounds will not set if applied too thinly in such settings. Is this the case? I just got a compressor crankshaft from a machine-shop where it's evident that they don't normally do such work, so maybe that's why I found that the bearing they'd supposedly set (with some anonymous retaining compound that could have been from c. 1990 for all I know) came off with very little effort. A few taps on the inner race with a brass drift and small hammer got it moving - that's when I knew there was a problem, but I was happy to get it off so easily because they'd left a gap where it should have been smacked up against a shoulder. The shaft and inner race had a few irregular areas that were 'slightly' cured (compound came off easily with fine mesh sandpaper), and others that felt 'greasy' but smelled like it might have been loctite compound coming off on my fingers. Needless to say, I will be doing this myself when I re-install the bearing, thus my question about 638. I'll be tempted to flood the joint inside and out, to be sure there's some squeeze-out, but not so much as to get into the rollers, of course.

You don't need to, and should you ever want to get the sleeve out, you'll have absolutely no chance with this stuff
