Your videos are amazing and I learned a lot of stuff I didn’t know I’m a freshman and this was a video my teacher assigned for my core and construction class this really helped me get a clear picture or at least a clearer picture than what I knew beforehand

11:54 looks similar to a chisel I had. Mine reminded me of an oscillating multi-tool blade (search on KZbin “undercut door jamb” & look at thumbnails for how I imagined it was used). Mine was straight and had a much thinner blade though. I don’t really know if either one is meant to be used for door jambs or not…

Good vid bro. There is some real junk out there these days. The geniuses where I work picked up super low end punches the tips mushroomed over immediately. Those “odd” chisels are caulking irons for caulking lead joints on Hubbard waste pipe. They make inside and outside irons to caulk the poured lead to seal the joint.

Thank you so much for identifying those caulking irons for me. I've noticed that about cheap punches they don't work at all. it's odd that they manufacture them when they just bend and mushroom the first time you use them

Thanks for great insights. I am about to purchase a whole bunch for my DIY garage, but was wondering if you could share any other content which goes into more detail about using Alignment punches, just so I fully understand the intentions behind the tool.

Would that long chisel before the nail sets ( 15:32 ) be considered a Slick? I've not seen one that small. I've only seen big ones for timber framing. Great video!

I think so and after I made this video somebody told me that's what those long flat blade chisels were for is for mortise and tenon's

Use brass punch to avoid sparks. Like taking the sending unit out of a gasoline tank.

The thing about Center punches as they end up getting beat up pretty quickly and it's always nice to have a few spares as well as a couple units for abuse

Those "offset chisels" are caulking irons.

I think those left and right chisels are for caulking a lead pipe joint with oakum.

No roll pin punches or starter pin punches? Looks like you grouped drive pin punches with the alignment punches.

The chisel at the 13:19 point is a Cape Chisel. not a "splitting" chisel.

Lovely set of chisels, can you please do one on punches for various non-threaded fastner removal. Also I wanted to let you know that google algo doesn’t automatically recommend your educational videos rather I was searching for pin punch sets and I stumbled upon your great videos.

Hot chisels are used by blacksmiths for striking and cutting the metal after it is pulled from the fire. Cold chisels are for striking and cutting metal that is cold. It has nothing to do with the actual forging process that the chisels undergo.

I was going to say the same thing. It's just because you use them on cold metal, rather than hot.
