@@heynow1988 he is extremely territorial of his family & home. He will not allow anyone in that he doesn’t know and becomes rabid. He will calm somewhat when I tell him they’re not a threat but he will not let his guard down because he doesn’t trust them yet. After many meetings he can learn to accept them. Meeting them off property out of his territory is a better idea …again, will take more meetings to have him be comfortable but he will be less territorial off property but still protective of his owners. They are very independent dogs with strong instincts to guard without owners telling them to. Once they think there is a threat, it is difficult to tell them otherwise which is why you need to spend a lot of time training…and training is not the same for them as with other breeds. They are also massive and powerful with extreme biteforce along with their strong instincts so they’re extremely dangerous in the wrong hands especially.

@@heynow1988 with other family that don’t live in the home, he has met them numerous times and accepts them when they come to visit..being wary at first depending on who it is and how often he sees them. But some of these dogs will not accept anyone that doesn’t live in the home. He is very loving with the ones he accepts 🥰.
@yogibearsmom3881 Жыл бұрын
@@heynow1988 we have an in home vet that comes over a few times a year who is very brave because yogi wants to attack him every time. He becomes rabid and focused on removing the threat from his territory. He can sense the fear as well which doesn’t help. He needs to be muzzled and he will lay down when I tell him to after the initial lunge and growling ..but will stare and growl and snarl and if he comes close he goes right back to rabid mode..needs to be sedated everytime in order to be examined by the vet. A lot of owners of this breed keep their dogs from vets and groomers because of this. We do our own grooming. Also, most vets and groomers do not know the breed, and if they have heard of them..or learn about them..they do not accept them and won’t work with them because of fear and liability reasons. We are lucky to have our vet brave enough to enter our home. He was good with going to the vet before he matured and loved the people there. But then they change drastically after maturing

@yogibearsmom3881Ай бұрын
@@cryptocis640 it’s mostly genetics…a lot of people unfortunately go to either back yard breeders that breed poorly or mix breeds & lie that they are purebred…even some better known breeders but not respected breeders breed poorly and mix . Yogi comes from a long line of champions and hard working dogs …beautiful bodies, heads, coats, well rounded temperament etc. then I made sure to exercise him well, take care of his bones & joints, feed him a good diet and take care of his coat. People need to also remember that this breed has sizes that range drastically, a smaller sized CO does not mean poorly bred or that they’re not an amazing example of the breed. Some people also try way too hard to have a massive CO when it’s NOT in the equation for that particular dog to be able to hold anywhere close to 200 lbs let alone more …yet people still obsess and over feed and end up with a very obese and unhealthy dog that won’t live long. Yogi is very tall and long so his weight distributes well. 🖤🐾
