everyone except for the criminals hate the criminals and think that they get what they deserve. (and to be honest, the criminals probably hate the criminals too. I'll bet more crime is committed with criminals also as the victims as it is against law abiding citizens, but that's a different topic) in the comment above, you say that it should be legal to set a lethal booby trap. it's easy to agree with you when you're watching somebody breaking into a vehicle or something similar. but if it's legal for me to set a lethal booby trap, what happens to the booby trap setter if the victim of the booby trap isn't a criminal? If I said a legal lethal booby trap on my front porch to stop someone from stealing my packages, and the neighbors toddler wanders into my front yard and steps on my step and gets killed. what then? My comment isn't meant to throw shade on you personally. like I said, I agree about thinking criminals should be punished. but my point is it's too easy to cherry pick a situation and insert an extreme response (ie. A lethal booby trap) and did not consider how that extreme response might actually play out.

Yea...because even though you are protecting your property, you can still get fined/charged for seriously hurting someone with some sort of rig/booby trap like this. I remember hearing up on a court case about a old guy who got tired of vandals breaking into his summer home (or something like that) while he was away so he rigged up a system where whenever someone opened up the bedroom door, it triggered a system that caused a rigged shotgun to practically blow a would-be thief's leg off. The intruder almost died and needed to have one of his legs amputated due to how badly mangled it was and in the end, the owner of the home was subject to serious fines and possible jail time for intentionally setting up a trap specifically designed to seriously hurt (or worse) trespassers.

If I set a trap, I don't want to scare you, I want to stop you from doing what you're doing. So If you get severely hurt or end up in a wheelchair that's your problem!! You should have never broke in my car!! I'm tired of these (laws) that gives (criminals) the (ability) or the (option)to (Sue) the (person) that they (violated) because the criminals were (harmed) in the process. Setting up traps or rigging systems specifically designed to cause serious harm or worse to trespassers/thieves can net you serious legal trouble and even jail time. I remember hearing up on a case from an attorney were some guy got tired of vandals breaking into his summer cabin while he was away for the season. So, he rigged a system to one of the bedroom doors that causes a shotgun to damn near blow one of the thief's legs off. If I recall (because it's been a while since I heard all the details) the thief almost died from blood-loss/shock and and leg was so badly mangled, he needed to get it amputated. In the end, the home own that rigged the system was looking at potential lawsuits from the trespasser/his family for medical bills/pain and suffering and was potentially looking at serving time in jail for what the court deemed attempted murder/assault with a deadly weapon because it was specifically set up to cause serious injury. So, if you want to rig traps to protect your property, there are plenty of designs for "bangers" that essentially cause small loud pops from shotgun blanks or possible improvised flashbangs like here that are simply designed to scare off a potential thief. But anything that can actually cause injury could potentially backfire on you legally even if you are protecting your property from thieves.

What a shame that the man who set the trap can go to prison for 10 years for defending his property without him present. Absolutely despicable. Traps are the only defense one has against deterring these scum sucking leeches of society away. But when the thieves know booby traps are illegal.... makes it pretty easy to be a criminal
@zerox1872 жыл бұрын
Yea but the problem is if somebody with a legitimate reason to enter the property has to do so without knowledge of the trap. Example - You die alone at your home which is booby trapped, nobody hears from you for some time and police are sent to do a wellness check and set off your booby trap. Same could apply to a vehicle, it's going to get opened by somebody at some point if you die.
