It's been 15 months and I'm still having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that Jeff is gone. I was fortunate enough to meet him in Red Bank as we stayed in the same hotel. Jeff was at The Count Basie Theater 10-10-22 and 10-11-22. I had seats for both shows. I was able to meet Jeff in the parking lot when he was going to soundcheck on the 11th. Three month to the day he was gone. When I Saw him I asked if he had time for an old guy who has been a fan for 55 years, he replied, get over here. He was healthy, vibrant and funny as hell. That's what makes this so difficult. Jeff was still at the top of his game and to be taken down like this was just cruel. I've seen Jeff live close to 30 times. As my health has failed me I don't go to shows like I used to but when it's Jeff and he's in N.J. N Y. or PA I will go to 3 shows. I can never get enough Jeff. Two things I will share on the day we spoke. After we spoke about music and certain musicians and took pictures I said to Jeff, Eric wouldn't do this for me, to which he replied, that's because Eric is a prick. With that we both cracked up. The most important thing of all. I thanked Jeff for all of the joy his playing has brought me for over 50 years. I am so grateful I was able to tell him that. We hugged and I told him I would see him next tour. Unfortunately that won't happen. Thankfully there are many videos of Jeff out there. Music will never be the same without him.He was 1/1. The scary thing is I don't think he knew how great he was because he was so normal. Thanks for the video Mark.Be Well.Nick
