Causes and Fixes P0746 Code: Pressure Control Solenoid “A” Performance / Stuck Off

Trying figure out my issue. Its a 2003 camry 2.4 219k odo. Gave me this code after revving spinning the tires for some minutes after getting stuck on snow on winter. I had no choice but to try get out of there. I did get out but right after the car was jerking when driving on after out of snow. I even thought had snow or ice grabbing the wheels. So after tht one day I didn’t have reverse and after I noticed i could just let the car warm up and would have reverse. But when engaged I couldn’t gas it or would jerk badly. And besides that always revs until past 3k before it shifts when stop at lights and start moving the car before it reaches 20mph. And ive been driving it since for 3 years. I replaced fluid with oem and trans filter no flush just drain and replace it got tiny bit better but still revs and jerk before passes 20mph. I remember testing one time the solenoids and they would click but not sure about the resistance of each. I wonder if the wiring would fix it

2014 Honda accord sport that stalls while I'm drive. Got a diagnostic that said it was a pressure control solenoid A/P0746. I have no clue on where to find them online.

I got a 2015 Nissan Altima S it has the same p0746 code and when I put it into drive or reverse it won’t budge, could I just swap out the oil that’s in it and clean the filter and then put the oil that is required into the transmission to resolve the issue?

Yes, that can be done. The fluid in the pan is often replaced, but not a full flush. If the pan is dropped, I would test the solenoid and wiring. It is best to research your transmission to see what others have done since there are differences between transmissions. Forums or Reddit are often a good place to see what others have done and the outcome.

If you replaced your transmission filter it could be that the suction tube in the filter is too long that it hits the bottom of the pan not allowing to suck any oil. That was the issue in my car after replacing the filter.

I worked on my car for three years trying to figure out what that problem was. It turns out it was a malfunctioning battery. I originally installed the battery backwards in my car and nothing was working. I had the car taken into a shop and they checked everything out told me it was 150 amp fuse. I had the battery at advance auto parts at Sam’s Club anywhere that would check a battery said it was a good battery, since I ruled out battery, I changed the transmission the alternator the starter after the first transmission repair did not work. I change the transmission again. Finally I just switched the battery and the error went away.

Usually its just the transmission solenoids, fluid level, filter...

Good video on causes of this code. Bad video on the advice to NOT change the fluid. In the old days this was only partially true, but today many tyranny's carry a 30000 mile change service regiment. Not following fluid changing schedule will lead to viscosity and sludge and hydrodynamic failure.

I probably should have left that part out, or explained it better, but for sure always change the fluid when required and research the transmission since there can be differences.

The ks.for.the Info.i just bought a 2012.nissan quest s and realized a hesitation especially if I put i little.more pressure to start driving..checked transmission fluid found it low..I was I stead of adding I just put a new filter and put new fluid..now.i.have this.code..i heard u talk about shaping the fluid with one can cause..so can I issue solve itself.if that's the cause?

I found the solution when you get the solenoid D after a new transmission oil change along with a new solenoid installation, the battery needs to be disconnected then☝️ you proceed with the installation, so the computer don't get confused thinking that still running the old solenoid otherwise you gonna have acceleration issue, I save my self $3k 😉 with these useless mechanics

So I’m having the shifting problem with my 2012 Nissan Maxima and I can’t find the shift solenoid A diagram for it. I did an OBD2 Scan on it and it’s throwing P0746 so I’m looking to replace it myself but I can’t find any diagrams

It can be difficult to find diagrams and schematics for free. Professional mechanics use paid services such as All Data and Mitchell Pro Demand. All Data has a DIY section for individual vehicles, but it does cost money, and they often have recurring monthly fees, so if used, be wary of which service is bought. Finding a manual for your specific vehicles is likely best.

It can vary and depend on the vehicle and how it was driven. For example, a Toyota Corolla mostly highway driven, likely 150,000 miles. A Chevy Cruze mostly city driven, likely 75,000 miles.

never flush them just change fluid if not burnt and swap all the solenoids. older car parts are cheap online

My check engine light po746 came on and lately on cold start when putting my car to drive, it doesn’t move and RPM is high when gassing feeling like I’m on neutral. Is that why it’s causing the problem ? It’s says pressure control solenoid A on my Toyota Camry 2004 SE v6 3.3
