Same here. Been on for a year now. I had a friend recently plug into the ODB port and reset it. 5 days later, same thing popped back up.

@@crittercherry3800 Check the 2 relays that go to the fuel pump. 1 of them does not say it is to the fuel pump but it is ! One of mine was bad and it fixed it.

I have a 2023 Tacoma (12000km) that gave me this after sitting for the morning. Hopped in to go for lunch and got this. Car wouldn’t turn over at all. Battery had correct voltage and even tried boosting it to be sure. In the end, disconnected and reconnected the battery. Worked since. No error. Dealership was no help.

Dealerships are never any help. Thry are their to sell you a car by any means, not to help you. They are basically there to bend you over but that nut!

The message only shows up when the key is in the ACC position. When it’s running & I’m driving it, it doesn’t appear at all whatsoever. I’ll go check to see if the fuse is blown, but what would be the most likely problem at that point?

The message will appear when the key is in the ACC position. If it appears when the engine is running, then there is an issue.

@@haroldmodz5784 You’re absolutely fine. It’s just telling you that it’s running ONLY on battery power aka you’ll drain the battery if you leave it like that too long. Once the car is fully started, that message should disappear since it’s actually running. If the message still exists once the car is running then you have a serious problem on your hands.

For anyone having the problem check your wiring going to your alternator that was the problem for me in the end looks like a squirrel chewed through half of it seemed to still be getting a connection on and off had it crimped with new wire and problem solved

Thanks for the video. I have a 2023 Tacoma with 900 miles and the Check Charging System message appeared while taking a long distance trip. I took the car to the dealership and was told there is not a problem. Should I get a second opinion at another dealer?

I have a 2015 Toyota Camry and my car won't crank but the lights will come on. My husband had my battery tested and it tested at 100% charged. So he ruled out a bad alternator because he says the alternator charges the battery. You mentioned testing the alternator with a meter, but if my car won't crank is there an alternative I could use instead?

If the engine doesn't turn over with a charged battery, check all the connections and the starter. A charged battery and a good starter should turn the engine.

No lights on the dashboard. When I reset my maintenance light the reset was done but the display showed to check the charging system. Engine off battery reads 12.46 to 12.54 Volts engine running 14.04 -06 volts. I drove my Toyota Avalon to AutoZone they checked the charging system with their system tester it came back as a check charging system. I took the alternator to the Autozone it passed the test, but I replaced the alternator anyway and checked every little thing I could have throughout the wiring harness to the alternator, from the alternator to the battery, i checked battery terminals were all clean checked the ground throughout the fuse box all good, checked every fuse in the fuse box they are good.. when I took my car to AutoZone to retest the charging system with their system testing equipment now it shows bad changing system instead of check charging system. No lights on the dashboard. No driving issue. Any suggestion will help. Thanks.

Had this pop up on my dash as my car died. Put the car on the trailer and took it to a shop. They said it’s the fuel pump. I told them it’s the alternator, but the guys at the shop said my alternator is producing enough power to charge the battery. They said they ran power to the pump and it was dead in the water. Is it possible for a bad fuel pump to cause the “charging system malfunction” code? I feel like the shop is dicking me around. All my mechanic buddies said it was definitely a bad alternator/battery as my car would still turnover for about 5 seconds each start then die. Eventually the battery went dead as the alternator wasn’t able to keep the battery charged.

Will brittle wires going to the spark plugs cause this? Or is that separate from this system? I think a squirrel chewed on my coil ignition wire going to my spark plug and now have this message, car has been running fine for about 6 days though. I’m clueless on if those two things are separate issues or connected Please lmk if you know

That would be a separate issue unless the squirrel also chewed threw an alternator wire or any charging system wire.

I drive a 2017 Toyota Tacoma Trd Sport w/ 65,000 miles. This notification appeared the other day. The next day my truck barely turned over and started. After that it wouldn’t even turn over. I jumped it with a jump box and it’ll start and run fine. If I turn it off and turn back on quickly it will start. If I let it sit 10 minutes it won’t turn over at all. I ran a diagnostic on it and no codes came up even with the “check charging system” notification on dash. What’s your guess?

The alternator needs testing with a multimeter to see what the output is.

My Toyota Sienna 2019 measures only 13.7V. Not above 14V. Is my alternator still ok?

Depending on the vehicle, alternators usually output roughly 13.5 to 14.5 volts. The alternator's rated output will need to be looked up to see the exact voltage, but I would think it is good.

So I have a 21 Camry. Messaged popped up. First response was battery. Reads 12.6v off 13.9v on. Load tested and it dropped .1v. Thing is I’m losing compression. Completely shuts off when idle. Then the message pops up. Checked plugs and they do look burnt. Engine runs when I give it gas though. Please help. 33k miles on it.

The message popped again took it back and they can't figure out the issue. They said they needed the car for 2 days to dig in. I've been driving it like this for 3 weeks and driving 200km a day. I'll probably have to take it and leave it for 2 days

Can this cause the engine to seize up? My car won’t start and we turnt the bolt clockwise. My car sat for 2mths it’s a 2017 Camry with 65k miles. We changed the starter and battery and the bolt won’t turn.

No it will not cause it to seize. If it will not turn over, charge the battery and check the battery terminal connections.

I had check charging system while engine running just to find out engine was low in oil and i am not joking oil leaked throught the filter housing and was almost completely empty.

Have this light on voltage is good terminals are good battery is good took it to the dealer and they said everything is good that the tolerance on the computer measuring the voltage is to tight and it is a known issue...
