Causes of colon polyp

Ms A was just diagnosed to have colon polyps. I did a colonsocopy and removed them. It turned out one of them is a tubular adenoma, which is precancerous.
Ms A asked me why she has colon polyps

Short answer is: we dont know
But we do know that if we do colonoscopy, discover and remove the polyps, patients will be ok, and colon cancer can be prevented

Great info Doc. I have had polyps in both of my colonoscopy procedures. They were not cancerous and small. I’ll keep getting my screenings done as well as exercise, diet and such. Keep up the great work Doc!

Dr Wai, just had my colonoscopy and had a 4mm and 5mm polyps which were removed. Does this mean I most likely will not get cancer for at least the ten years until my next colonoscopy? I know there are no guarantees, but just wondering the likelihood. Thanks so much!

Not necessarily. If you were raised in the same household, you're likely to have similar diets and lifestyles, so they could be the true causes.

@@timbrown1897 I am not discounting a genetic link, or didn't mean to, but studies have shown that diet and exercise can affect gene expression. Diet and exercise can reduce risk of cancer but not eliminate it.
