Silver Hound , I have this 1961 nickel it looks mint. Full detail on the hair , face letters , date but like u said it has about 3 full steps that are really nice details , get it about 5 days ago can't believe someone used it at a gas station lol.

Side note/IMHO, I often wonder if a person needs to know/be very good friends with the "right people" to receive these kinds of prices/payouts? I'm not saying these coins don't sell for these prices, I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised if it requires knowing "the right people" in the "right circles" a/k/a if the avg Joe/Jane submitted dozens of these coins in similar (or better shape) would they come back graded accordingly & if so, would they sell for the same high prices?

I also have a 1978 with full steps that looks even better and then a couple of black nickels that are beautiful, idk if there black beauty's or not I am learning a little everyday . But it is crazy with nickels over the last 8 months or so I can't believe the ones I got from banks and pocket change. But your right I don't believe the prices I see either.

A lot of these coins are not made for the public but specific dealers, that can verify they are dealers, through the mint. One of the major reasons that, it my mind, the mint out priced and killed the hobby for new starter’s. The same reason the public can’t get new pennies from the mint.
