*Caution*Temporary fix on a (Gen 1) 2000 Kawasaki KLR650. Clutch safety switch. Can’t start in gear.

Had similar issue with my 1999 KLR. Sprayed contact cleaner/ brake cleaner into the contact to free it up. Spring inside was all gunked up on small plastic copper contact.

I want to thank you immensely, I have spent countless hours of frustration trying to just get a crank. Have always had starting issues but have always started. Turns out I don't have a clutch safety contact for the switch in my handlebars. Thing was mickey moused when I got it, I was able to pop out the connectors in the pigtail without cutting wires with a pick tool so I can go back if I ever have the desire. I just tapped up the connections and it cranked right away, haven't heard that sweet sweet noise in almost a year. THANK YOU

I set it up this way to be able to start it if im in gear and stall out which is more common. I believe there is another switch down below that is the culprit.
