Have been in holiday near Lagos and loved it, lovely place, Steve. Hired one of those kayaks out in Corfu and they didn't even offer us safety vests, so got none. You need one as they are very wobbly as I found out 😮

Hi Stevie, thanks for the great vids, love the channel! I'd like your take on how to bring some extra stuff on a kayak. I'd like to do a long-ish river camping with my gf and stuff may not all fit in the kayak, are there some cheap trailer-like alternatives? Pros and cons? Have a nice day!

@@ezeekiel101 I bought the X500 with exactly this in mind. The kayak and pack weigh about 18kg, a bit over 20kg when you add paddle, pump, etc., so it's quite possible. You can even get some clothes in there as well if you pack carefully and/or can sweet-talk check-in agents. I took my X500 to Estonia the other weekend and had a great time going up and down the river from Tartu. Some things to be aware of: 1. The Itiwit 2-piece paddle doesn't fit inside the bag. This is utterly boneheaded and makes the paddle useless for this purpose - there's no way you're getting it back unscathed. I ended up getting a 4-piece paddle from Advanced Elements that cost about 75€. 2. Get a cover for the bag that'll completely enclose it and the backpack straps. I had to travel to collect my X500 (no Decathlon in Finland and no international shipping), and before I'd even got it home, let alone wet, "special handling" had put a black streak down the bag, ending in a hole through the fabric and a chunk out of the kayak. Luckily the damage is cosmetic but you don't want to risk the straps hanging up on a belt somewhere. I now use this bag - www.fjallraven.com/uk/en-gb/bags-gear/accessories/travel-accessories/flight-bag-90-100 - the 90-100L size is perfect for the X500. 3. Think about your choice of PFD/lifejacket. I have an inflatable CO2 one, and it's a pain to travel with - not least because some inflatables use explosives rather than CO2. Officially I have to get airline approval (an hour on hold just to get the same "OK" I got last time); unofficially I've stopped bothering. They tell you to bring it in your carry-on bag and not check it in. Airport security's interest varies from nil, through unzipping to inspect the cylinder, to insisting that I can't take it on board (until I point out that there's one under every seat on the plane!). On the other hand, I'm not thrilled about having a foam PFD subjected to the kind of abuse that hold baggage gets, and don't much fancy trying to cram one into the overhead bins on an ATR. I like not dealing with the bulk of the foam jacket (also when paddling, and when carrying my stuff to the water), but that comes at a cost. Hopefully I'll see you on the water in some far-flung holiday spot :)
