One of my first caves along with Horseshoe, Jubilee and Attermire in 1951. Has the warning sign of roof collapse disappeared? Several years ago a 20ton slab of roof collapsed due to over a century of weathering as a result of the Victorians blasting the massive opening you see now. The original entrance is believed to be the narrow slit hugher up to the left of the current one. If you had gone to the right from the entrance you might have seen an opening just above head height and accessed over an awkward convex outcrop. A few yards in is a cosy sandy chamber perfect for a bivvy. I haven’t used it but I know of several who have. I am afraid caving without a helmet is not a good idea although Victoria is less likeky to give you a headache than most

Those midges!!! BTW - Attermire Cave is a bit of a sod to get at.... very high on the hilside and requires light scrambling and one rather airy bit on a ledge then a step across a gap (bit like on Jack's Rake). Fascinating once in.... remains of a Roman Chariot burial found in that one - and how on earth they got it up there in the first place is anyone's guess!

Bloody midges! Itchy just watching this! 😖 Good to see you cooking some food and showing how easy it is to make a simple and filling meal, it's getting commonplace now to see all outdoor KZbinrs using dehydrated meals. This is a refreshing change. Finally I was blown away with how Blue lay and let that cow sniff him. Outstanding behaviour, a credit to you both 👏👏👏

If I need to cut weight I’ll use dehydrated meals but I feel I’m not getting enough goodness with them that’s why I’ll carry and add broccoli or similar to them. Blue is very well trained and he trusts me and I guess feeds off my ‘calm’ in those situations. Thanks Niall

Along the Appalachian Trail in Virginia we have no-see-ums…..I think they are smaller than midges….but bite just as hungrily. There’s no net that will keep them out so we would stand in the smoke of the campfire for relief or slather ourselves in insect repellent and stink ourselves silly.
