As a black woman therapist I am completely moved by this documentary and hope this work can be spread throughout the country. We have too much data that proves that’s last statement “boys don’t need more discipline they need more love” Unfortunately our entire system works against that premise so as a community we have to work together to hold the line. Thank you for your work ❤❤❤

Mom taught me all these lessons by smacking me with her flip flops. Even in public, she'd lay the smackdown... 99% of the time I didn't even do anything wrong prior to the beatings but I sure as heck didn't do anything after them !

Our Department of Education should invest money in programs like this for our young boys. If you can instill love, discipline, and hope into a boy at an early age, he'll have one safe haven in his life that sets him on the right path.

On my to watch list, I really like what this man does. What I don't understand is: why black boys? what about white ones? they can also be broken don't they?
@t3rcx2 жыл бұрын
Yes of course, we all can use the same thing. But this man (Mr. Jason Wilson) lives in a black community and is helping his local area in a unique way. The experiences of black boys in black communities are, in general, very different from the experiences of white boys in their communities, which are in turn different from the experiences of girls. One-size-fits-all approaches are actually not the best way to deal with these things because they ignore important nuance that, if not ignored, can be more effective in addressing the specific circumstances seen in each community. Therefore, it is important in this context that he is talking specifically about black boys because it is showing that he is taking their unique life experiences and community culture into account. I am a long-time martial artist and an instructor myself and have been following Mr. Wilson's work for a long time. It is great to see his program getting more widespread exposure, hopefully it will inspire others to take up teaching in their own local areas to serve their own specific communities in the best way. Much love, deep respect.
