Italy has a very strong navy for its size, their shipbuilding infrastructure is very famous for constructing many cruise ships, if you see a cruise ship there’s a good chance it is built in Italy. They also manufacture naval components and aircrafts through OTO Melara and AgustaWestland which explains why they can operate carriers despite being in the middle of the Mediterranean.
@lucaiervasi85155 ай бұрын
in reality italy produces practically everything a ship needs internally. yes, it is true, many cruise ships are built here, but offshore ships and warships are also built here. fincantieri is the largest shipbuilding company in europe and the fourth in the world. returning to warships, they are entirely designed and built in italy or in shipyards around the world owned by fincantieri. as for weapons and sensors, these are also developed in italy by leonardo or by european companies formed by leonardo with other large european defense companies, such as mbda etc. fincantieri has also designed and is building the new constellation class frigates for the united states. contrary to popular belief, the italian fleet does not operate only in the mediterranean, but italy has several national interests outside the mediterranean, and being one of the most powerful fleets available to the european union and nato, it operates everywhere. The fleet is currently deployed in South Africa, the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, the North Sea and the Indo-Pacific. For example, the ship Cavour is currently stationed in Guam. From there the unit operates throughout the Indo-Pacific, ranging from Australia to Japan and moves escorted by Italian and American units. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpacgnqjos98jtU

A Carrier is only as good as the Jets it harbours. The Cavour carriers the F35s and we know from Isreals srtrikes against Iran back in October they can beat the Radar on the best Russian Anti-Air systems. I don't know how good the accompanying fleet is that would sail with the Cavour, but if the Italians get that right then this is a very strong setup.

In fact, Germany and Italy cannot build aircraft carriers, according to international treaties, because of the Second World War. Why are they average? The Qnlz class exceeds in carrier capability compared to the Cavour class. The Trieste which is much bigger kinda Charles de Gaulle sized and the current PANG plan which is huge will also have VLS so it seem to be a british thing? Well its partly a cost thing. Theres also side effects of vls on carriers like delaying flight ops due to the debris from a launch but to field 2 larger carriers there were some cost compromises. @@lucaiervasi8515 ma quali "restrictions present in the constitution"? Ma che stai a di?
@lucaiervasi85154 ай бұрын

been shipbulding one of the most prolific industry in Italy and been that except the F35 almost all the major systems are made in Italy, I would assume that of the money spent there meny came back as taxes, gpt and technology progresses, while the other options is to close the shipyard and pay unemployment to the workers.. that potentially cost more than the ship.. so I'm not an expert.. but give it a thought..

The second cold war you say. This never had to happen. If the US hadn't told Russia that it would make Ukraine Nato and station nuclear weapons there then there would never have been this conflict.

Until Russian aggression there was no question of Ukraine's integration into NATO and even less of nuclear weapons on its soil. Ukraine did not even meet the standards required for entry into the European Union. We'll have to stop listening to the nonsense on Radio Moscow.

There are also 6 F35Bs which will be 15 at the end of the programme, plus another 15 for the Trieste. With no offence to anyone, there are few countries that have the capacity to build and maintain 3 aircraft carriers with F35Bs, although the Garibaldi will be decommissioned in October, but it can be used as a drone and helicopter carrier if needed. Furthermore, we have no overseas territories to justify building conventional aircraft carriers, although a nuclear aircraft carrier is planned, but I do not think it will be built.

@ammiragliomallard7500 It's not so sure. It's currently in dock for major work, and on the Defence forums they say that at Navy Headquarters they're considering a change of use, given the current times. So they might change and a helicopter and drone carrier would come in handy.

@@admiralmallard7500 That was the original plan, but i will not be shocked if the Military will decide to use it as drone carriers in a near future, seen the ukraine-russia war development on drones side.

The RAN should have bought 2 of these instead of this LHD from Spain Cavour is a far superior design, it’s too Bad the Trieste wasn’t on the drawing boards back then as that would have been the perfect ship for the RAN.
