My favorite song on the album. This and "Bored in America" are masterpieces. Good luck finding lyrics half this good these days.

You're going to get married on an island? Or did you mean aisle, as in between the pews in a church? I suppose you could get married in a church on an island. Then you could walk down the aisle on the isle.

I picture these two on the corner of Aspen and San Francisco street in Flagstaff, Arizona (looking as if they may have not showered for a few days). They begin to play this song, and a crowd is slowly drawn in. The first thing that people notice is his voice. They say to themselves, "Wow, this street performer can sing, I could stop to listen, I have a minute to spare." They listen to what he is saying and some people leave... They heard things that they didn't want to hear. Some stayed standing with solemn expressions.. The singer reminded them of things that they may have forgotten about. They feel defeated because of it. People that talk the talk don't always walk the walk. The piano solo.. unexpected but needed, for the people that were hoping for a quick distraction or excuse to leave. Others stay and smile out of appreciation for the comedic relief. The song ends and the listeners that are left standing look around at the mass of people that were moved by the performer's painful truths, because is it was spontaneous, because it was something they needed to be reminded of. Everyone hugs then disperses. (Flagstaff is a huggy town) I really like this song. I will be in attendance for the show in Tucson, AZ at the Rialto Theater, bringin' my best buuuuuuuuuuudy. We're happy and excited :)

Not threat, concern. (But whatever, man, you get my point.)
@brianrenninger50419 жыл бұрын
I dont believe it's about the threats to society. It's about their irrelevance to the individual. He builds a mountain of issues, then destroys it with the final line "But what I fail to see is what that's gotta do with you and me." The way I believe the song is intended, the title "Holy Shit" is not a reference to the author being jaded or concerned with all the things wrong with the world, but rather overwhelmed by being forced to notice it. Buzzwords, click bait articles, pseudoscience, and 24hour news cycles. Lists and lists of absolute bullshit.
@kerrymelt2939 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but that list - sung like he signs it, is amazing.
