@@damiensampson7323 I have had more recalls on my 2014 Hyundai Sonata since I purchased it in 2015 than I had on any of my previous cars (Honda, Toyota). At least 4-5 recalls since 2015. I would still be driving the Toyota Camry if it had not been totaled by another driver.

well here is the thing, the reason Hyundais and Kia were able to separate themselves from other Japanese cars is their tech and exterior styling. It's a trade off. Less money spent on tech might lead to more reliable cars, but less interest in the brand

I never believed Kia or Hyundai were qualify (or aesthetically pleasing) vehicles anyways. However, since news about vehicle fires has continued to develop, I feel unsafe just being near them. Canada appears to have awful laws protecting its consumers; i.e repairs, return and replacements. In the UK engine failure, for example, during the warranty period would give us consumers the 3 options above, without question for free. I agree with you 100%. Most people now in the US are driving huge pickups. They are not able to see the turn signal if they are trying to change lanes. Yes, we also get a lot of snow and ice buildup on the rear bumpers here in Michigan as well. The engineers that thought of that design should be shot.

I had a 2011 Toyota Corolla that I bought brand new and after only 2 years the rear view mirror started to separate, all the weather stripping was coming off and the back passenger door panel had a large gap between the window and the panel. None of these things were covered by the manufacturer's warranty OR Toyota's ECP (extra warranty) that I paid for. The other thing was the stitching on the front passenger seat started to come apart and that was the only thing they fixed. This was my very first brand new vehicle and as a result I will never buy a Toyota again. Best of luck to you

It's a known risk for all vehicles; gas or electric, they contain sources of ignition and more than sufficient fuel loading in the form of plastics galore not to mention the obvious gas tank. I brought it in to my local service center to see if they can figure out why. They told me that they weren't able to find out the problem. Fast forward to November 2019 really cold night into the morning, my car wouldn't start again. It was towed to the local service center. They had it in the shop a total of 2 and 1/2 days and they still weren't able to find the problem. This is a problem that Kia needs to step in and remedy. If this continues I may have to sell this vehicle and buy a competitor's vehicle instead as well as tell everyone I know not to purchase this car or any other from this company.

Hyundai had another recall (beside this one) just few days ago. This is why it is important to do the home work before purchasing any vehicle and to check history or company reputation. Hyundai was well known back in 1980s for manufacturing very sub-standard, unsafe vehicle model called "Excel". That vehicle was a major disaster for the company due to so many issues and unreliability. Then about 10 years ago or so, the company made some improvements with the help of German engineering. This is why their style has strong similarity with many German vehicles. When I visited Japan recently, you will not see even one Hyundai on the road because Japanese people will not buy any Hyundai. Perhaps they know some thing we don't here in the USA. Personally with all these recalls mounting with hyundai and with past poor reputation, I would not buy Hyundai. I know many people buy Hyundai simply because they are quite cheap in price compared to Toyota or similar brand and models. But what everyone should do is to ask these simple questions: 1). Is it really worth buying Hyundai to save few dollars compared to pay just bit more to purchase other brands with hardly any major recalls? 2). What will be the reliability of such vehicle in the long run? 3). How well the re-sale value will it hold and depreciation in value? unfortunately the reality is most people are not willing to pay just few more dollars to buy better overall vehicle so when they buy Hyundai, they feel they are saving by not paying more. But what is wrong with this approach is not able to buy quality product and settle for sub standard vehicle which will end up with disasters such as outlined here. Then you can end up losing entire car.

Ford had to extend a transmission warranty due to a lawsuit out to 150000 miles. A buddy of mine owned a Focus for 3 months and had the transmission go out at 160000. I had issues that same week but mine was at 144000. I paid nothing for a transmission module, he's now put more money into the car than it's worth. The next day, another part of the transmission (one not covered by warranty) failed on my Focus and we were both out cars. If you've never had to deal with something like this, count your blessings. It blows!

I was actually about to buy a new Elantra or Forte to replace my 2005 Toyota Corolla. But then Hyundai decided to put in new CVT in their cars, and so far, they are far more problematic than the previous automatics. There are even complaints of the transmissions breaking at just 300 miles. Bought a 2020 Honda Civic instead and it now has over 19,000 miles after a year and no problems so far.

I'm not really sure why in this case but, in my experience with all recalls, we never had to pay a dime. Always covered by the dealership. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Strange cause I live where this is being filmed too.

some of these are 10 - 20 y/o vehicles bought used with no maintenance history. Dealership will repair everything, and kiss you on the bottom if you can show that you performed the maintenance. From Quebec, I own a 2020 Elantra, luckily it was covered under warranty, but there still is no recall. My engine began knocking at 4000km, I let the dealership know and they ordered parts for the vehicle, this was in November 2020. Fast-forward to January 2021, and they still hadn't received the parts (backordered) and were reticent to loan me a car. My Elantra was doing 16L/100km, was heavily knocking to the point where it sounded like a large commercial diesel and was regularly losing power on acceleration. I had to wait for an engine light to come on before I could take it to the dealership and they finally left me with a loaner car. I asked them about it, and they confirmed my suspicion. Debris in the engine, leading to a bad lubrification of the rod bearings causing engine failure. This is EXACTLY the same issue plaguing the early 2010 Elantras, still present 10 years later.

And don't think that Hyundai and Kia are alone in this, my partner's Range Rover caught fire while on the highway, he was just driving down the highway when out of nowhere smoke starting coming from the engine and next thing he knew flames shot out, he was lucky to pull over and had to jump out of the vehicle while it was on fire, the cause? A hose had burst that was supposed to be replaced but wasn't.

So what is new for Range Rover then? BIL had his own parking spot in the service bay, and as I dropped it off there so often the security and most of the sales people thought I actually worked at the dealership. I used to skip the check in line, drive through the side entrance, past the security then take it to it's parking, and leave the key with the service office, along with the fault list for the week. In the months they had it that recall was out for "immediate attention", and they had the new pipes, but they were never installed. Guess how we found that out, I was driving the kids, and the hose popped, so I had to do a roadside fix to get it going, using a multitool, and cooldrink to fill the water up. Yup popped head gasket on a rear cylinder, but it was "within specs", so it had rough idle when cold forever after. The low water sensor is disabled on start, as it would otherwise falsely trigger with normal coolant flow.

Yep, junk... They get people impressed at purchase time by offering lots of features and a premium feel, but it's short lived. The interiors wear faster, switches and buttons wear and break, and the engines and transmissions are vastly less reliable. They are simply not built to last.

I spent time as a mechanic,& I totally disagree that a knock sensor helps manufacturer's keep from having to replace an entire engine. This just gathers data to see how many are failing., Less interpreters ., more facts, period .Some thing the car owner can do to keep from dying in their car is get an oil pressure gauge installed ., & then realize if you have below manufacturers specification on your oil pressure it's unsafe to drive ..Having a knock sensor is like getting hit on the head, & having the data sent to a hospital that says you should come in right away ....hello ....hello ...are you there?

I had a sonata that experienced engine failure in the middle of the highway. So scary! This was AFTER the recall work was already done on my vehicle. They covered the replacement but I still played $1400 in a new ecm and another $300 for a starter in the next 3 weeks. Not covered by Hyundai. It ran perfectly fine prior, never even had a warning light. Traded it in because other sensors started going, which happens when you start replacing other sensors. Still waiting to get a check from the class action lawsuit in the us. Thanks for sharing this information.

Same as me in Malaysia. My dad had a seven-year-old Kia Sorento. During the fifth year, my dad driving the Kia down a small busy road in a remote area. After my dad overtook a bus in front of him, the car's engine shuts off. Luckily the engine broke down after my dad overtook the bus. After that the car was towed from Kulai, Johor to Kuala Lumpur, the service centre saw that the engine and transmission were cooked. Hopefully, it is fixed under warranty or else it will cost an arm and a leg.

My 2016 Kia Sorento seized on 8/16/19... stopped in the middle of the highway. No lights, no sounds, nothing. Did some investigating and it was out of oil. Just had it changed on 6/7/19. Dealership is refusing to honor the lifetime warranty. Again, no lights, no warning, no nothing. 5.5 quarts of oil went somewhere in two months. Or at least that's what was SUPPOSED to be in there. There are several class action lawsuits pending as well regarding this issue & similar things. Don't be fooled.

Over the past few months, and maybe even a couple of years - i've seen countless friends/acquaintances rush to buy hyundai and kia products due to the sales tactics and value proposition. I keep telling them theres no such thing as 0% financing, its all already built into the price - and that too at 84 months sometimes letting them to think on a monthly payment structure than overall price! I've even told them about the many hyundai/kia engine fires in the states, fires that happened in models that werent even on the recall list. Unfortunately, to no avail. Canadian auto regulators as usual are a shell of what they're supposed to be.
