I have a Lumin UV-C cleaner. It’s a shelf drawer type device made to disinfect CPAP equipment for sleep apnea, takes about 5 minutes and has no ozone. Its been around long before covid and it’s also able to disinfect any object you can fit in it. So it is reliable and safe, but around 300$ and they are now being reserved now for health care workers/hospitals to disinfect N95s if you look at their site. Glad i already had mine use it everyday.

Consumer UV devices always seemed too good to be true. I saw a video of someone promoting a UV device by waving it over their food and beverage at a restaurant all in under a minute... it just made me roll my eyes

These devices can be really dangerous. One of them totally destroyed the fungus in patch of fungal infected skin. And so I had to stick with the fact that my skin infection was gone for good. Oh well. I had to live with healthy skin from then on. Damn deices.

Instead of disinfecting via UVC lamp, try spray disinfectant on your items, it is better. Or soak your key with Clorox

New research shows that UV-C is the safest as it can’t even penetrate the first layer of cell on your eye ball. The problem is that bulb that only emits UV-C is very expensive so most of those device will have bulb that emits a whole spectrum of UV light. Quite a few inaccuracies in this video. CBC I expect better.

Another problem with real UVC lamps is that the quartz glass degrades over time and eventually quits passing UVC, so 182nm output needs to be monitored to ensure the lamp is still usable or the lamp just periodically replaced after a specified number of operating hours regardless of whether it still lights up.

Makes sense. I wouldn't expect a wand to work very well, and it seems dangerous to have the light uncontained. I've had a UV box that I use to clean my phone every day for a few years now, though I've never looked seriously into it. Obviously, it's not a substitute for handwashing and the like, but it made me feel safer about the potential level of nasties on my phone long before pandemic times.

Ozone is O3 and it's naturally abundant in the earth's stratosphere (look up ozone cycle) and is required for us to continue living, think ozone layer. These guy's didn't do their research at all...
@teardowndan5364
@teardowndan5364 3 жыл бұрын
Stratospheric O3 is fine. High concentration of ground-level O3 such as that often contained in smog on the other hand is bad since O3 is a relatively strong irritant and real O3 lamps can generate a significant amount of indoors O3.

@@teardowndan5364 Right, I get that but the amount these little gadgets can produce - I highly doubt would cross the allowable limits, no?
@teardowndan5364
@teardowndan5364 3 жыл бұрын
@@HJohal-qb1jg Most If your UVC lamp isn't powerful enough to produce an unpleasant amount of ozone, it likely isn't powerful enough to disinfect anything within a reasonable amount of time. UVC disinfects by ionizing radiation, which is the same process that causes it to generate ozone. Some hotels use UVC mercury lamps as relatively high volume ozone generators to clear persistent smells from rooms.

Too much ground-level ozone is bad for things that live on it since ozone is a relatively strong irritant, oxidizer and contributor to smog. Stratospheric ozone (high enough that it isn't bothering anybody including airplanes at 10km cruise altitude) is good since that's what blocks most UV.
