I have always admired Jimmy Carter since I first met him when he came to my high school in 1973 as governor...one of the best memories of my life was staying up all night with my Dad on election night 1976 to see if Carter would win (I didn't even have to go to school the next day...first and only time). A man of integrity and honesty...things that partisans on any side don't seem to like. God bless President and Mrs. Carter.

Admired for what? Were you alive during 15% inflation and 15% interest rates ? All caused by bad decisions by him. He only carried Georgia. Worst defeat in an election. Talk to his staff . Both he and wife were literally hated by the staff.

@@patrickwelch3274 that was not caused by his policies at all however the 3 trillion dollar debt we had at the end of the 80s was caused by reagan along with the savings and loan crisis which collapsed because reagan deregulated it along with tens of thousands of aids deaths while reagan did nothing and iran contra but people loved him

@@patrickwelch3274 He said he was in high school in 1973, so yes he was alive to see the 15% inflation and interest rates. He also carried Minnesota, DC, and a few other states in 1980 - not the worst defeat in an election. He was hated by his staff? I will agree though, Carter was not a great president - but to little fault of his own. He was governing during a time of extreme crisis that he didn't cause, but he just couldn't fix it.

Reagan exploited Jimmy’s humanity. Had we known Reagan was not what he claimed, I think most Americans would have voted Carter in 1980. Even with his Cabinet member getting in trouble, Jimmy ran one of the cleaner Administrations and was one of our few Presidents who did not get troops killed overseas in foolish oil wars or resource based wars.

As a Carter Center volunteer during my graduate schools days in the early 1990s, I made two trips to Plains. In those days, people didn't have to sleep in their cars or need tickets for their seats. I happened to sit directly behind Mrs. Carter for the service. Afterwards, President Carter joined about 15 of us for his Sunday School sermon in one of the church's classrooms. He stood the whole time, just several feet from me, and, as he does in this video, talked about Paul! Then The Carters posed for photos outside, with the Secret Service in the distant background, smiling for the cameras. That day was one of many fantastic experiences I was privileged to enjoy with The Carters and The Carter Center.

Great man and humanitarian that we should all strive to follow. So humble and unassuming but a force for good. My mom who was a Georgia native loved President Carter and was proud to be in the group of those from Georgia. I always believed that his presidency was one that should have set the tone of how a president conducts himself. Yes, he was beset by problems beyond his control, just kept getting hit from all sides, but he never lost his cool, remained dignified and humble. His honesty and integrity was the best of traits, but, our society couldn't handle it nor were we ready for one such as him. Humbleness at it's best.

In 2008 I took a flight from NY to Atlanta and a rental car from Atlanta to Plains. Stayed at the Plains Historic Inn. Went to Maranatha the next day, Palm Sunday, where President Carter taught the Sunday School class after the service. Just like in this video, he and Mrs. Carter offered to take pictures with anyone who wanted one. I stood between them and he put his arm around my shoulder like an old friend. Amazing. I went to the Sunday evening service too, as there was not much to do in Plains at that time of that day. Well into the service, I noticed that the Carters were sitting I the pew directly in front of me. Just regular fellow Christians, seeking God and not the limelight. May God bless their family in their time of grief. 💕

I’ve watched this report a bunch of times in my life. As a lifelong Reagan conservative I did not agree with him politically, but it was always one of my hopes to go watch him teach. Decades ago my mother was offered the position to be his personal assistant at the Carter center, but turned it down because she had a totally blind Newborn to raise in yours truly. She always said that she wanted to take my niece and I on the train from Cordele to Plains to see him teach Sunday school. Now they are both in heaven. What a good man.

The church (Maranatha Baptist) does an excellent job of facilitating this each Sunday that he's available. The Carters are gracious enough with their time to sit for pictures with each guest. Fortunate that I live so close but there were people from multiple states and countries in attendance. Go early!

Deeply devouted Catholic but respectf of different religions, and every Sunday we'd go to his house and have history lessons, mostly war history then have a good game of monopoly before we would have dinner, then watch some evening news before leaving. Ever since I was a kid, we'd always go to my grandfather's house to listen to so many stories about history, you name it. Ancient History, Medieval History, Modern History. Especially war, politics and more recently, Monty Python of all things. 🤣🤣🤣 He died 5 years ago, and I asked him who his favorite US President was. He said he had three, and one of them was Jimmy Carter. Rest in Peace Mr. President, as a Canadian I thank you for your humble but very impacting Naval service in saving the town of Chalk River in 1952.
