@@patrickwelch3274 He said he was in high school in 1973, so yes he was alive to see the 15% inflation and interest rates. He also carried Minnesota, DC, and a few other states in 1980 - not the worst defeat in an election. He was hated by his staff? I will agree though, Carter was not a great president - but to little fault of his own. He was governing during a time of extreme crisis that he didn't cause, but he just couldn't fix it.

Reagan exploited Jimmy’s humanity. Had we known Reagan was not what he claimed, I think most Americans would have voted Carter in 1980. Even with his Cabinet member getting in trouble, Jimmy ran one of the cleaner Administrations and was one of our few Presidents who did not get troops killed overseas in foolish oil wars or resource based wars.

As a Carter Center volunteer during my graduate schools days in the early 1990s, I made two trips to Plains. In those days, people didn't have to sleep in their cars or need tickets for their seats. I happened to sit directly behind Mrs. Carter for the service. Afterwards, President Carter joined about 15 of us for his Sunday School sermon in one of the church's classrooms. He stood the whole time, just several feet from me, and, as he does in this video, talked about Paul! Then The Carters posed for photos outside, with the Secret Service in the distant background, smiling for the cameras. That day was one of many fantastic experiences I was privileged to enjoy with The Carters and The Carter Center.

Great man and humanitarian that we should all strive to follow. So humble and unassuming but a force for good. My mom who was a Georgia native loved President Carter and was proud to be in the group of those from Georgia. I always believed that his presidency was one that should have set the tone of how a president conducts himself. Yes, he was beset by problems beyond his control, just kept getting hit from all sides, but he never lost his cool, remained dignified and humble. His honesty and integrity was the best of traits, but, our society couldn't handle it nor were we ready for one such as him. Humbleness at it's best.

The Iran hostage situation and gas crisis are all people remember, and neither of them were his fault, although people criticize him for not going to war. I find it ironic that these days, those who identify as Christians, seem to be mostly in the pro war camp. We could all do well by following his example.

@@kedaariyer4887 Very poorly analyzed, actually. Carter wasn't a failed president, he was challenged by a fairly popular politician of his own party with the "right" name and a base that was trying to recapture the magic of Camelot, and then an actor-turned-politician without a whole bunch of substance.
