Thank you for this video. I just got out my Elan after over a decade. Needed to get familiar with it again.

Bought one new and loved it. Almost passed in favor of an A2 because it felt too small, but the addition of a grip made it perfect. Loved that camera.

Very cool! The more I explore the entire Canon lineup the more I appreciate the Elan series. Great cameras. Thank you for watching and commenting!

What I like about this camera is its simplicity and silence. On the downside, and probably the reason why it's so cheap, is that one of the foams used eventually disintegrates on the shutter. And if nothing is done, failure is inevitable. This happened to mine, and I got out of it a few years ago by gently cleaning the shutter blades with cotton buds and C petrol, if I remember well... I haven't had a problem since then, and it still works great! 🙂

Very useful video, with tons of info and thoughts about this camera! It seems to me that the later Canon film camera, except for a few models, are pretty much underrated. The EOS 100 and the 10QD are dirt cheap and pack lots of features (if you don't mind the bodies being a bit plasticky). Anyway, I suggest you to update the title (or even the description) of the video and also add the European name of the camera, just to ensure that your video gets more views and likes. I hope your channel will seriously grow and gain tons of subcribers :)

Thank you for the comment and feedback! I changed the title, thumbnail and modified the description. (good idea) And yes, the Canon EOS film cameras are underrated! Again, I appreciate you watching and your feedback! I hope I can keep providing value with this channel.

Thank you for your comment, I just typed in eos 100qd without knowing it’s called Elan in the US. I just got this camera for my birthday, my boyfriend thought this one will be a great starting camera for me. I also have a point and shoot Konica A4 and it’s amazing.

Thanks for doing this video. I just got an Elan (which I think is pronounced the French way, EEH-lan, instead of eeh-LON like Elon Musk) and I found your video very informative. One major con is that it requires a 2CR5 lithium battery which typically goes for around $20. More of a sore point in that a 2CR5 is actually a pair CR123a in a custom package. The following are pros or cons depending on your reason for getting this camera: 1. For a Canon camera, it feels a bit light and plastic. This is a product of the era where other cameras in the time period and class feel that way. It is a good representation of a camera in the 1990's. It is bad, in that it may feel cheap compared to cameras that came before and after it. 2. The lens mount is EF, which is great if you are shooting with current Canon lenses, your lenses are probably going to work with this camera. If you are collecting older Canons (for example, the Canon AE1), your lenses will be incompatible. Final observation: The viewfinder image is 1:1 in size at about 75mm. Most SLR cameras are 1:1 at 50mm, where if you look through the viewfinder with one eye, and the other eye uncovered, both your eyes will see what's in front of you at the same size.

2CR5 is not bad! I bought 2 2CR5 rechargeable batteries + charger for 32€ on Ebay, it's perfect!

I have had 3 of these cameras. I still have 2, I simply shot one to death. I stuck with this model into the digital era when I got a EOS 50D. I shot a couple weddings for friends and family (I hate shooting weddings, but I am apparently pretty good at it. I always enjoyed shooting with. It is ergonomic and user friendly. I think you said the viewfinder didn’t have much information in it. That’s not true, the viewfinder has the shutter speed and the aperture. It also has the bracketing stops and partial stops as well as whether you can hand hold or need flash/stabilization. I did not like the look and feel of the follow Elian’s, so I stuck with a camera that I was comfortable with and met my picture taking needs. They are great cameras.

I bought Mine 30 years ago for £700 with a 35-80 EF lens I then bought a EF 75-300 just after the 35-80 was traded in for a 28-80 USM MK 3 recently I found a 22-55 USM for 5 GBP at a boot sale then I found a EX 380 SPEEDLITE for 25 GBP. The lens fit My EOS 1 D MK 4 as well as the flash gun I used to have a 50 E but had the dreaded battery drain problem and oil on the shutter I also found out that the controls were cluttered I sold it for spares. The EOS has one AF Point which is all I use anyway the 3 FPS is faster than the 50E and the controls are more straightforward. I think that some of The 1000,100,and 1 EOs cameras around1990-1985 was actually better than the later models after 1995 they got cheaper made. I recently got the non- functioning grip extension which makes the camera easier to hold ( I aways thought the grip was too short and stubby to hold. All in all with the prices from about 10-25 GBP if you can get one without the oil go for it you can buy a alcohol from the chemist which removes the oil and the sticky on the grip. I use to sell these when I worked in a camera retailers and they were the best 35mm film mid-range in 1993. Warning when you switch the mode dial make sure you press the lock button from Lock ( red L position ) or the dial falls off if you force it we had a couple of customers that did this and the warrantee was voided but at the time we managed to get the dial replaced at cost price for the customer. Even more important is if switching from M A P AV or TV to picture modes you have to press this button as it goes past the Lock Mode once past the Lock Mode you can switch modes without pressing the button either side of The Lock position

If I remember correctly, EOS 3 had some sort of (then new) direct drive advancing motor and (agin then new) shutter mechanism, which was advertised as quite durable. A2/A2e/EOS5 and Elan/EOS100 in comparison had a smaller, quiet motor via belt drive...

I've recently found a eos100 amongst my old belongings. Am going to try to sell it but it's hard to find any info or price on them, I can't imagine old cameras are in high demand or of any value.
@CraigBergonzoni4 жыл бұрын
@@lauraeverett9804 Unfortunately the EOS 100 doesn’t have much value. Depending on what’s included and the shape it’s in you might be able to get $50 or $60 for it but I’ve seen them as low as $15. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions about it.

hey man how are you, i bought this camera off ebay and i took 1 picture in the fully auto mode and when i pressed the button it just took the picture and winded the film. after that when i take pictures i press the shutter button and it just goes dark and i have to press it again in order for the film to wind. what do you think is wrong? i appreciate any insight!

Hey Andres, off the top of my head I’m not sure what’s going on. Possibly an issue with the battery but I’ll see if I can find anything on this.

What can you tell about using speedlite? Do modern ones work only in manual or also in TTL mode?

They also have TTL mode but to be honest I haven't worked with speedlites much with these cameras so I can't tell you much details.
