Your 'budget friendly' camera recommendation is pretty expensive if you just want to document your life on film. In my experience, any fixed lens p&s from a big brand offers good enough image quality - with the prime Mjus you're paying for the hype and pocketability. Of course, great video as always!

Yeah, if that’s what the market is for the best point and shoot, I guess I just don’t want an endgame point and shoot that bad. Going on eBay with my $1,000, I can literally either buy a cool little point and shoot that’s 5% nicer than what everyone has, or I can buy like a 12-pack of the best nikkor lenses ever made. It’s super cool, but it’s not how I’m going to spend my money

I remember thinking the T3 was getting expensive when it hit $1000 street price 10 years ago... I used many of these types of cameras including the T2, Minolta TC1, but my favorite for ergonomics and useability will always be the Ricoh GR1, and they are still relatively affordable in comparison. Just no premium titanium look.

You didn't mention the data back. You can make that camera put the date in the corner of the negative so that everyone who sees that picture knows you have a camera from the 1990s. Man, I hated those things. I worked at a camera store that sold Fuji Discovery cameras. They were reliable little point and shooters with "drop-in loading" that was almost foolproof and they had that infernal date back. One of the first things I would show potential buyers was how to turn it off. Weirdly, so many people absolutely loved the stupid date back. Meta data for the nineties...

Great video my friend. My honest opinion- I had the t3 for a year, and eventually sold it. Though it was good, I don’t feel the price was justified. Found the Minolta 70W Riva Zoom 28-70mm on eBay and its pictures were literally JUST as sharp but it cost $50 vs contax $2000+ pricetag. For anyone trying to find a similar result without breaking the bank.

I've had all sorts of cameras, and just the flaw of not being able to set it to definitely shoot wide open, disqualifies it to me. Ridiculous. In 1972, when I was 14 or 15, my father asked me to recommend a camera for him. I gave him a few choices, then he drove me to NYC to check them out in person. We chose the Olympus SP rangefinder with 42mm f/1.7, and both center-weighted and (at the press of a button) spot metering. Most of the pictures he took for the rest of his life, and almost all of his best ones, were taken with it. I still have it. I much later bought my mom a Ricoh R1, and still have that also. Sentimental value aside, I doubt I'd trade a random R1 for a T2 (except to flip for profit) and I know for certain that an SP in perfect condition is not being traded for a T2 by any sane person.

I don’t know how the viewfinder of the Nikon 35Ti, but the Contax T2 viewfinder is much better compared to the similar priced Leica Minilux with the 40mm Summarit lens. If I remember correctly the Contax T2 is also slightly slimmer compared to the Minilux, so if they were priced the same I would choose the T2 🤓

Rage bait title, but other than overpriced and overhyped this camera is a time bomb of dying electronics waiting to happen and incredibly hard to repair. Also, you can't choose to shoot f2.8. Good lens and aesthetic though. Olympus XA is a much more budget friendly and useful tool, has exposure compensation, rangefinder manual focus, can actually be set to f2.8 and iso control. Got mine for $60 with flash attachment. Bad bokeh though.

You never really said why it is the most hated. But let me tell you - this camera is really prone to breaking, it is just badly built and almost impossible to repair. Also, as good as it sounds on paper, the auto exposures that it does are not that great compared to what you can do with a manual camera. The lens is not very sharp either, especially considering the price point. Grab a Pentax MX with Pentax's 40mm pancake lens and you will have a reliable, fully manual camera, that takes sharper photos, and is only slightly bigger, but still fits in a jacket pocket. And if you want something even smaller - you can grab a Canon point and shoot and it will still take better exposed photos than this Contax. None of these are even close to 1000 dollars, but hey, they don't look expensive either.

Oh, and did I mention that you can get one for a quarter of the price of a T2.
