People have noted on here that Channel 4 KDFW in Dallas switched from CBS to Fox in 1995. Wanted to point out, the woman in the promo @10:20, Clarice Tinsley, has been with KDFW since 1978. She's approaching 70, looks better than ever today; and still going strong.

All we need is more Affiliate Promo Briefings from all three networks including CBS, NBC and ABC.
@lakebay9724 жыл бұрын
@21:57 the "5" in the start type is almost exactly like KXAS Channel 5, the NBC affiliate in Fort Worth which is a rival station to KDFW. Channel 2 in Houston also uses the star type font.
@RJSchex4 жыл бұрын
The "exclusive" CBS Typeface shown at 19:47 is Helvetica Bold-a very common font. The actual promo font would be a tweaked version of Helvetica Bold-the E, F, G, K, M, Q, and R noticeably differ.

Between this & VintageTelevision's NBC 1983 Promo Briefing for "Be There", there's no doubt in my mind that Steve Sohmer is one of the unsung heroes of Television. Not just advertising, but Television in General. Also, for years we were led to believe (according to the long dormant 80s TV Theme Supersite) that the old guy in the promo at 7:12 was the Late Peter Boyle from "Everybody Loves Raymond". Looking at the promo in HQ, I'm beginning to doubt that was ever him in the first place.
@montana_patriot2 ай бұрын
Sohmer would move on to NBC in 1983, and do pretty much the same exact promo concept, just with a different slogan.

I remember this campaign from when I was teeny-tiny (we have a bunch of old episodes of Walt Disney that feature it in the commercial breaks), and I've always wondered who did the campaign's music, as well as the final animation for the the graphics.
@jimscott20503 жыл бұрын
I believe Chuck Blore did the music and Sheryl Gold did the animation.

@@johnnyballenatl Oh, yeah. The long-running CBS Sports logo from 1981-2016. Wish CBS would bring it back. Talk about Eyeworm, where something you see sticks in your head, and is memorable to everybody. No pun intended, of course, seeing that the Eye is the CBS symbol
@johnnyballenatl5 жыл бұрын
Scoop Nemeth But just like the Roone Arledge-era ABC News logo, the 1981 CBS Sports logo was looking tired by 2016, having been around since the days of Pat Summerall, Brent Musburger, and Pat O’Brien.

One other thing, and this is just a passing thought...Is it me, or would that "Promo Briefing" graphic at the beginning have made a Great ID for CBS' "Newsbreak" segments? The other networks in the 80s had fancy Animations for their news updates, but CBS would always be no-frills. Just a thought.
@hrtvfan28709 жыл бұрын
+PIX Promos & More I guess CBS decided to be no frills during that time to show they were serious about their news coverage (their earlier newscasts had simply a ticker as their "theme"; dropping that {and any sort of traditional open} in 1982 in favor of going straight to Dan Rather or whoever was anchoring that night's CBS Evening News and not going with actual music for a theme until late 1987).

As for this don't you have the previous year's affiliate promo briefing from 1980?, presenting the "Looking Good Together" campaign as for what they mentioned here with the theme promos have viewers going through the looking glass with stars appearing in living room of viewers (though they did the same thing that year, but the other way showing viewers getting in touch with CBS's shows plus the stars they love).
@JHollowayNetwork8 жыл бұрын

also WCAU-TV was CBS now switch to NBC in philly
@EricEbac229 жыл бұрын
Jean Vargas Alvarez You are correct; however, the affiliation switch between KYW and WCAU didn't take place until 1995. Almost immediately after that happened, WCAU became an NBC O&O, while KYW remained a Westinghouse O&O for another month until mid-to-late October when Westinghouse and CBS merged and all of Westinghouse's CBS stations, including KYW, became CBS O&Os (By O&O, I mean owned and operated, BTW).

CBS had an "okay" season. "SIMON & SIMON" was a good example of a series that was almost cancelled, due to a bad time period [Tuesdays, 8pm(et)- virtually the same time "THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW" was originally seen in, 20 years earlier, before IT was almost cancelled]. What saved it was that it "found its audience" right after "MAGNUM, P.I.", on Thursdays at 9pm in the spring of '82.....on the strength of that, the network decided to give it another chance- and it lasted for the rest of the decade.
