The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in consultation with the Department of Labor (DOL) and the Department of State (DoS), made available nearly 65,000 ADDITIONAL H-2B visas for temporary nonagricultural workers to come to the U.S. in Fiscal Year 2023. There's also a program for agricultural jobs. So instead of filing a bogus asylum claim and cloging up the system they could enter the U.S. legally under the work visa program.

There's a huge amount of agriculture in the lower Colorado River. Mexicans do the grunt work but they're involved in every aspect of agriculture from top to bottom. If there' s a shortage of workers, some of it could be attributed to an aging population of ag workers who's kids are exploring other options. The number of actual jobs available may be greatly exaggerated. Besides, I doubt picking lettuce is anyone's idea of 'the American dream'. I live in AZ, right in the middle of all this ag. I'd think it's up to the owners of the fields as to who they want to hire if anyone.

The only people benefitting are contractors selling services, the politicians, and the corporate interests they’ve prostituted themselves to. The Midwest already has their fair share. We just don’t complain about it all the time. My town is probably 75% “immigrants” who crossed into this country illegally, although the census says 15%. These immigrants generally work, so tent cities aren’t a problem, but there are many other problems that come with them. As my neighbor told me after I brought a safety issue to her attention, “this is how we do it in my country”. They bring the third world with them, don’t participate in the local economy (spend money in any local stores other than their tiendas), and have driven out anyone that is able to leave. Local businesses and population have died, as a result. And most don’t put down roots and stay. They move from crappy job to crappy job.
