It’s crazy this specific cartoon block is uploaded and I randomly got the YT algorithm for me to watch. I recall the day this episode of Saturday Supercade premiered vividly. My father had custody of us and we stayed at my future Stepmom’s home. She had to get up early in the morning for work at the grocery store she worked at and my brothers and I were excited about watching Saturday cartoons. She prepped us some chopped fruits before she left. My father woke up later that morning and made us breakfast and then we watched Cannonball Run and Fast Times at Ridgemont High on Showtime later that day with cousins who showed up for a family get together. TL;DR I recall memorable events on cues from random visual aids that trigger memories.

Just saw a video recently where the guy that said he was in charge of getting the master tape to CBS with the D&D ad left it at a restaurant he had lunch at, so he had to drive back, tip a waiter and then drive to the network quickly to make sure they had it in time to advertise the fall Saturday Morning cartoon lineup.

The early 80’s were great for Saturday morning shows. You still had the old favorites held over from the 70’s, as well as new and creative shows…there were big hits on all three networks. Making channel surfing common and watching one show one week and the other show the following if two good ones on different stations were on at the same time. The 30 minute toy commercial shows and teen dating live action programs had not yet reared their heads, so all was good on Saturday mornings. This lineup was solid…lots of diverse programs that meshed well together. The good old Captain was hanging on having been knocked back to weekends only…but thankfully he reverted to his original set rather than the ridiculous computer space station junk he was ordered to use by higher ups in his last season Mon-Fri. Of course there was the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner…you have to have it. Seeing the Peanuts gang in a regular season was a welcome addition, quick and fun clips taken from the comic strips. Benji was a cute show. Well done on a low budget. It probably would have done better in the ratings if the show was not directly up against the other cute Puppy…Petey and his buds…airing at the same time on ABC. Supercade was entertaining enough…product of the time, and Biskitts shined with its nice animation. Fun times back then.

I had that Q-bert board game but never knew how to play it but it was super cool. I used to watch the cartoon shows and play with the tint on the TV and all the cartoons turned into different creatures.... I was never really interested in Captain Kangaroo but I did respect what he did. Unlike that Mr. Rodgers character... But I am enjoying Captain Kangaroo as an adult now. I don't think I liked the country music when I was a kid... now I can tolerate it.

Get this, CBS is allowing its deal with Litton to expire, next year and plans to return to airing Saturday morning cartoons in the 2023-24 season. MeTV with its Saturday morning block of classic cartoons(Popeye, Pink Panther, Tom & Jerry and Looney Tunes) has obviously forced CBS's hand and yes, this will eventually have a domino effect, because this news will also force both ABC's and NBC's hands as well. Fox is out of it and CW is continuing its deal with Litton. However, the CTA of 1990 needs to be reformed, because the way it is, it's no longer working. CBS's SatAM lineup for the 2023-24 season will get some assistance from Paramount + streaming services and Nickelodeon. With ABC and NBC, eventually, assistance from Disney + and Peacock streaming services, respectively, to help restart SatAM cartoon programming on both networks. Let the next era of Saturday morning cartoons commence, starting in the 2023-24 season, but this will be a gradual process!!!
