You ready for Bush v. Gore 2000 on steroids?
@haroldelrod8515 Жыл бұрын
I guess that ended up being Texas v Pennsylvania. The Supreme Court, even this group of partisan hacks, ran far, far away from even touching that one. If you think about it, it’s hardly in line with “conservatism” and their “states rights” position for one state to sue another in federal court to attempt to overturn that state’s election results.

Actually, according to CNN in 2001 "If a recount of Florida's disputed votes in last year's close presidential election had been allowed to proceed by the U.S. Supreme Court, Republican George W. Bush still would have won the White House, two newspapers reported Wednesday. The Miami Herald and USA Today conducted a comprehensive review of 64,248 "undercounted" ballots in Florida's 67 counties that ended last month."
@easyenetwork20232 жыл бұрын
A lot of overseas ballots were illegal and that helped Bush out.
@josephpearson22 жыл бұрын
@@easyenetwork2023 I'm not aware of any legitimate source making that assertion. The Florida newspapers would have been all over that, if there was valid evidence.

Every time he was asked about it, he had the same damned dismissive, insecure reaction: “Oh just get over it. People should just get over it.” It’s almost like he knew what a load of bullshit it was, and that he was just acting as a partisan operative and not a judge when he voted. Bush was a disaster, a dope, a war criminal, and ridiculously unqualified for that job and the Supreme Court had to shove him across the finish line. Wonder if Nino ever secretly regretted his vote or if he knew that the Iraq and 9/11 bloodstains were in part on his hands.

“Requiem for a Dream”, starring Ellen Burstyn: in theaters during election halt for Florida’s 25 electoral votes in 2000. It’s based on the same name 1978 Hubert Selby Jr. novel. Selby’s preface in the 1999 update reflects on the characters’ pursuit of the American dream, denouncing that classic aspiration as ultimately destructive because “Life/life is giving, not getting”. Given these sentiments, what'd Selby think of Bush 43 winning the election / telling Americans to go shopping after 9/11?

Gore didn't have a choice whether or not to concede. The USSC has the final say in the laws of the land.
@mackenziegoodwin4593 жыл бұрын
That's not entirely true. The "safe harbor date" provision cited as the main reasoning in the case to stop the count meant that if Gore had chosen not to concede the next day, it would have gone to congress, who could have decided to do whatever they wanted-- continue/renew the recount, or choose to certify the state's electoral count for either of the candidates.
@mackenziegoodwin4593 жыл бұрын
Also, congress can, and many times does, legislate to overturn Supreme Court rulings. They do so at least once a year, sometimes a lot more.
