The genius of it was it wasn't preachy. Star Trek didn't resonate because it wagged its finger at the audience and said "Racism is bad. Don't be racist," like the crap that passes for social commentary today. Star Trek resonated because it bypassed all that stuff, and merely *showed* humans of different ethnicities working together and getting along. Roddenberry showed everybody what they already knew to be true, and that was the genius of his message.

i love how they're telling the kids it's all right. Granted they mean "It's Ok you are expressing your emotions and therefore can heal in time," but if you think about it for a sec, it seems like, "It's all right, your parents are dead, but it's all right," with bright cheerful smiles. Were I one of those children, I suspect I would have said, "My family's gone, what exactly about this situation is all right?!" And I'm saying this as a lover of Star Trek & Bones, especially. It's weirdly funny.
@allenlea831010 ай бұрын
Indeed, I was thinking that as well. I have watched this episode numerous times but only now, after all these years, I realize how tragic and traumatic this would be for those children. Not only for the loss of their parents, but the gradual awareness (and crushing guilt) of the children’s’ complicity in their parents’ death. 😢
