I can attest to this. I live a mile from the Esperanza Fire Memorial, the site where five firefighters died in 2006, and my insurance has been cancelled several times and the only insurance I can get now is through the ironically named "California Fair Plan". It has quadrupled in cost over the last 10 years, and it only covers fire, not wind, theft, or vandalism. I would have to get a second policy for that, but was denied because my mortgage is through a private lender instead of a bank. Not sure why that matters, since I've lived here 18 years, have a house built of fire-resistant materials, wide brush clearance (provided by my goats), and a fire hydrant in my driveway, close to my house.

They have been given evacuation orders. If they moved out when it was just a warning then they were able to make it down through mentone. If they waited until it was an Order then they are currently either up in big bear or making their way out the long back way. Highway 38 is closed. My home is in Mtn home village. Honestly right now it’s not looking so good. Hope your loved ones stay safe.

I saw the Line fire when it was very small. I drove right by it. It was a small fire in Highland above a housing community. When I drove by, there were tons of fire crews just standing around. No one was doing anything. It was so small I thought they’d put it out but when I awoke the next morning I saw/heard that it had exploded.

Getting it there is an issue. Water weighs 8.5 lbs per gallon. You can only effectively pump it thru hoses about 400 ish feet because of friction loss and nozzle operation pressure. They may have to travel many miles to pick up water in a plane or helo. A large air tanker only carries 9,400 gallons of water. About a swimming pool worth. It ain’t easy.

Cities and counties better stop allowing homeless and illegals to camp in these dried out, fire prone areas close to population centers and difficult to access forest areas. This same thing is becoming an annual occurrence because of lax policies regarding illegal camping. The state also need to manage their forest and desert lands better, by clearing out old undergrowth, and conducting periodic controlled burns, to keep fuel for these fires from building up over time. No wonder the insurance companies are pulling out of Mexifornia.
