The fire fatalities he referenced was the Decker Fire in 1959. It caught the El Cariso Hotshots in a bad position and five firefighters died. Tragically, 7 years later the same crew was working on the Loop Fire just north of Pacoima. The fire blew up on them and 12 men were killed. Fire behavior is drilled into all wildland firefighters because of tragedies like these.

well if firefighters carry fire shelters on there side invent a big fire shelters for houses. cover the whole house. stake in to the ground like a big tent.

Its pretty obvious that no fire mitigation work is carried out around these homes, you build with highly flammable materials in a highly flammable area, its a disaster just waiting to happen....build to the conditions, remove all flammable material, install fire protection measures, have a fire plan and be ready to act....then you, your family and home stand a fighting chance against a wild fire without just 1 of these and you stand no chance

I live in Colorado and I have had fires close to where I live. Orangy beige smoke so thick I couldn't even see down the street, it's frightening. My heartfelt prayers are with all of you close to and in the affected fire areas, and for the firefighters safety. What is so heartbreaking is the loss of homes, dreams, livelyhoods, and the animals that are being lost. I noticed some crude and horrible "jokes" in the comments there is NOTHING funny about this. Nothing at all, sick. Anyway my love,thoughts, and prayers are with you California.
