The reason housing is so expensive in New York City is that there's very limited capacity, and too many people want to live there. So, from an efficiency standpoint, residential towers would make sense. Obviously, luxury towers are not going to help, especially when people are not actually living in them. Maybe a few more residential buildings half the size without all the fancy accoutrements could help offset the housing demand.

I was in New York two weeks ago and observed this tower for the first time. The first thing I thought was "it is going to sway in the wind...." since the building is so 'skinny' and doesn't have the substantive foundation and footprint of, say, the Empire State Building. If it remains stable, it will prove how advanced and refined that new architectural technology/engineering has become.

@@Nitrotix1 While there are more billionaires now than at any other time in history, the majority of the population is getting poorer because wealth is flowing upwards. So, it's usually not beneficial to cater to billionaires.
@Nitrotix1
@Nitrotix1 Жыл бұрын
There are more people than anytime in history, and the dollar has been devalued many times over its value. The billionaires of today are the millionaires of the 20th and 19th century. And that is only going by public-facing data like Forbes. There are people and entities far more powerful and wealthy than the mere billionaires like Musk and Bezos, they just don't appear on any of the magazines and social media. If you're going to commit to this ideology, focus on them first and for most. I have no problem with billionaires owning some floors of some building when there are trillionaires that own entire countries and their populations. I have no problem with a billionaire spending millions on the businesses of a city when the city itself takes tens of billions from the businesses each year and completely wastes most of the funds on absurdities. The vast majority of people are still wealthier and have access to a much higher standard of living than ever before. Yes, improvements can always be made, and there will always be richer and poorer groups. But it is not going to change if you stop some person from buying a house in one city. They will just move to the next city over and spend their money there.

@@214dude2 Yeah that's why I'm worried. . This seems to me to be corporate housing. Wherein these apartments/condo's will be owned by foregin investors or venture capital groups, etc. And b/c of that more tall buildings will be built but only house about 50 ppl.

You know, if you wanted to comment on affordable housing, you guys could have written a piece on it. There's no connection between ultra luxury high rises, and affordable housing. They both exist in society. Two separate conversations.

@@kudzaim5434 lol lol Yes! They don't "make em like they used to." I work in real estate. Most new buildings are crap. Look at the leaning tower of San Francisco as an example. I've been in new buildings where floors are not level and neither are walls. Read about the lawsuits for this building. It's total crap. Could not pay me to live in it.
