I've had 2 cars stolen. Both times I was told its not a high priority crime so they'll get to it when they can. I live in a small town, we don't have a lot of major crime. Both times I found my car and the people responsible were arrested. The first time it was juveniles and they got away with probation. The second time the man was released on an O.R. bond, stole a car that night, led police on a highspeed chase, damaged property & vehicles, and hit a pedestrian. The pedestrian lived but is paralyzed. I don't know why that time it was a high priority crime. Maybe police wanted to go on a chase? He was a career criminal with many drug charges and multiple theft convictions. If they would've kept him in jail that pedestrian may still be walking around living their best life.

In 2021 Nashville my car was stolen in our downtown office parking lot. After a few hours, I realized they were using my earbuds and I was able to track them. I notified metro and the detectives. It was clear they were going to do nothing about it. I went and tracked down my own car with police on the phone. Once i found them they ran of course, but it was only then that metro became active and arrested the theives. I had to deliver it all on a silver platter AND put myself in immediate danger before they cared enough to get proactive. It is still very much the case that if you want something done, you have to do it yourself.

This is just ridiculous!! They should be cutting you a check for doing their job for them!!! The police are so useless in these situations. Not only did I have my car stolen before, but less than a week later I witnessed a car being stolen & when I called the police there was absolutely NO urgency at all!!! All they did was collect the items I found in the street that the car thieves threw out of the car & asked “what direction did they go?” after me calling 20 minutes prior 😒 obviously they were long gone by then, probably half way through chopping up the damn car by that point

Sadly, our cars getting stolen is not top priority, especially in larger cities. To the police it's just another mundane task on the list even though our cars can mean so much to us and get expensive. I had a car stolen once and it got recovered partially stripped, The police did such a crappy job on the report I had to sue the insurance company to get paid. They didn't mention the stereo, half the interior, engine parts, rims, tires etc..Took years because the insurance company was accusing me of fraud as a way to get out of paying. I tried to find the cop who did the report (car was found in Miami on 4 space saver donuts) thinking he could help me out and I was never able to contact him at all.... ever. The police dept could not care less. I figured if the cop told the insurance company how they actually found the car it would get taken care of. Seems the cop wanted nothing to do with it or maybe thought he would get in trouble for doing such a careless report on a new car that had less then 10,000 mi on it

The triggers me so much after having my car stolen. I was so upset when they recovered the car in an alley bcuz I knew whoever did it would get away with it. When my car was recovered, there were items in there that didn’t belong to me, yet they did no fingerprints on the car or anything if those items, including a license plate from another car smh. I feel like recovered cars should be treated as a crime scene & investigated just like any other crime. It makes absolutely no sense that they don’t run fingerprints which could easily trace car thieves. I felt so defeated & violated. After over a year I am still dealing with the aftermath but the people who ruined my life get to go free. Hopefully one day I will get some type of justice but as of now it still bothers me a lot bcuz I’ve never felt so helpless, violated & unheard 😢

The stupid part of all of this is , the manufacturers can do more to prevent these thefts. We pay far too much for these vehicles to be just stolen so easily . GM’s Onstar service is great for this. But you have to pay for it . Should be included in the vehicle purchase. Prevent how many senseless car chases and accidents from fleeing thieves . What makes me laugh is the new mobile key sharing of cars like Kia . Known vehicles for car thieves. And they just make it that much easier for them 🤦‍♂️.

The Democratic Party has decided that they don't want to have people in jail for what they consider non-violent crimes. when a car thief is arrested and appears before a judge in Chicago or the greater Illinois area The judge releases them on bond. They don't show app to court usually, but even if they do, they aren't given any jail time for the first couple of offenses and eventually, if they commit enough crimes, they only get like 30 days, 60 days in jail. that's why this is going on because there's no punishment.

Responsibility is key. And the judges need to start dishing it out. Second I believe manufactures of cars need to completely redo their systems so cars cannot be stolen that easily. For instance I would prefer an actual key with a steering wheel that locks. Over the push button start with just a remote. It’s obviously a massive problem.

You are correct saying a standard key vehicle IS less likely to be stolen, but, the caveat on that is it needs to have an rfid transponder chip in it as well. A standard metal blade key with rfid and a locking ignition is currently the most secure type of vehicle at this time

How are only 144 stolen cars seized out of almost 3,000 reported stolen Vehicles allowed to pass Border Patrol and continue into Mexico, when THEY HAVE a Computer System that scans the License plates and alerts them of stolen Vehicle???? Manufacturers know about this. It has been at least 35 years since thieves have electronic devices to open cars. It was in Mill Valley, California, I was at a hotel on a street of hotels. At 3 am I was standing on my balcony when I watched in total amazement the trunks on every car pop open. Boom, boom , boom, they all opened. This happened after a young man walked along pointing something at each trunk. Car makers can put a stop to it........I think, based on my experience. If it's electronic, it can be beat. This would leave me to believe that the makers have as much to gain as the thieves.

After seeing so many videos of police chases end their various endings, I've long wondered why is it that police enforcement cannot team up with car manufacturers to make a car where once the owner leaves their car, a code is then sent to the owner's mobile and only this code can start the car. If your car is somehow stolen from you anyway you call 911 or some other non-emergency number and a central police computer kills the switch on that car's engine simply by shutting the computer down. No more chases and useless deaths, injuries and hundreds of millions to pay for all damages.

New Mexico, specifically Albuquerque, is a hot spot for auto thefts. We have a few groups on social media, so everyone can look out. Those groups help out tremendously! Law enforcement out there do conduct routine bait car stings in an effort to catch people, but still these people are quick and since Mexico is right next door it's easy for them to steal and already parted out your vehicle or it's made its way across the border never to be seen, again. Its sad, people can easily just get a job, but as long as it's easy they will keep doing it..

My truck is equipped with a lead based anti-jacking system made by Glock. If you wanna steal it when I'm not around, go for it. That's why I pay so much for insurance. New stuff is always cool. I'd much rather they steal the whole vehicle and never see it again vs having the window smashed to grab something on the seat.

The problem isn’t whether or not manufacturers know “how easy it is,” but their reluctance to disrupt their legacy dinosaur supply chain and designs. This is why they give excuses like “our cars meet industry standards.” Yes cause the industry is lazy and cheap and wants to rely on old technology because it saves them money. All car manufacturers with the exception of Tesla pretty much use the same suppliers, same technology, same parts for most systems in their vehicles that does decades back. Most manufacturers will not enact significant change unless forced to. This is why most cars would score horribly in private IIHS crash tests and give excuses like their “cars meet standards.” But bad publicity forced them to change

The “Kia boys” type thefts don’t happen in Canada Know why ? Canadian government requires cars to have an electronic immobilizer from new So.. the car doesn’t start without the key Makes stealing a car much more difficult The USA could require the same anti theft equipment… it’s not expensive or complicated That could be a first step to reducing the auto theft problem in the USA that doesn’t require cities to do a single thing with their already tight budgets

At the 16:00 mark, the host advises the use of a “steering wheel lock” to stop people willing g to hack your car. Let me be the first to say something about that. If a dude is able and willing to hack your car, they will have the ability and know how to bypass/pick the lock on 99.9% of the steering wheel locks on the market (like “The Club”). Most people into hacking have at least a passing knowledge of lock picking and lock bypassing (basically hacking locks). Add on top the fact most consumer grade locks in the world are fairly easy to pick open. It’s so easy that most people that try to get into lock picking usually are hooked quickly because you end up getting results fast and at this point people have optimized picking locks in ways to where if it takes longer than 10 seconds then something is wrong, especially these old designs that never seen much improvement in decades. All that plus the “cores” (part that you put the key in) used in these locks are used for many other things and there are purpose built tools meant to get them open just as fast as a key. What’s my point? If you’re gonna spend more money on something to slow down a potential thief, there are much better options available.

The woman at the 3minute mark could just put a lean on the car. Then it will either get repo'd or she'll get the title. The sad truth about stolen cars is that it doesn't create any revenue for the police so they won't waste their time with it. They would write the car a ticket before they would care if it was stolen.

@parangarito22 what? Onstar? They rip those out. Also rip out dodge radios that have telematics in them. They know where most oem telematics are and disable them quickly. If it's a gps tracker the owner put in the car you have to have contact with the owner authorization know the trackers ID # etc. And if it has none of the above how do they track it other than visually? How many helicopters are they going to have just wandering around to track stolen cars? You need to wake up how this stuff works. Gps tracking in MOST cars is either something that isnt/wasn't available. And if not you actually need owners who are PROACTIVE in retaiming their vehicles. There ARE FEES involved with gps tracking since they use cellular technology. Who wants to pay for it all?

Yes there is a 7% increase between those numbers, but that does not represent an increase in car theft. If you consider the stolen cars with the amount of insured vehicles in the US those years (roughly 282,000,000 & and 291,000,000 respectively) you see there is a .1% increase. decimal points look negligible to me here.
