I thrilled to this back in the 70's too & it made quite an impression. By the way, his name was spelled H-i-m-a-n, w/an "i" instead of a "y". And what an amazing performer/writer/producer he was, of over 30k shows! And Hi as he was known, was born in 1910 & lived to be 99. Like Christ, Einstein, and Jon Stewart, a visionary creative Jew who was a heck of a great guy with a kind heart & great sense of humor and he carried The Twilight Zone torch quite splendidly. Thanks Himan, indeed!

Really excellent audio quality on this one. Used to listen to these in the back seat of my parents car on the long drive back from relatives. Lots of times we'd lose reception along the way and not hear the endings, or come in in the middle. It's nice to be able to listen to these without the AM signal loss! Thanks for posting!

So at first this was kind of like a sedate Carnival of Lost Souls. Then it draws heavily on a certain ancient myth regarding the afterlife and the struggle to escape, the saga of the great Greek bard Orpheus who sadly looked back & lost his wife Eurydice, similar to a Nipponese fable, and a gimmick borrowed for another famous story where someone escaping doom makes the mistake of looking back. The ultimate in exclusiveness. Oh well, at least there's a buffet lol. Thanks ChillySunshine.

I figured part of it out right away, but I didn't see the rest of it coming. Twilight Zone used similar plots. This is a good one!
@inkyguy3 жыл бұрын
There are a number of production intersections between “Mystery Theater” and “Twilight Zone.” For instance, a lot of the interstitial music in “Mystery Theater,” including its opening and closing theme, was music originally composed for “The Twilight Zone” because Himan Brown had access to CBS’s entire sound library, a literal wall of recorded sounds and music, which included the music used in “The Twilight Zone.” CBS owned this because Rod Serling impetuously sold all of his rights to the series to CBS for a relatively small lump sum, a decision that horrified and enraged his wife when he informed her of what he had done.
