Nope, they sure can't. It's outsiders coming in buying up land, and building their dream resorts that have really changed the scenery in the Yucatan Peninsula. The cenotes which are sacred to the Maya people are starting to become contaminated, and violence is on the upswing with drug turf wars beefing up. Not at all the quaint little village it once was. My daughter likens it to White Colonialism 2.0.
